Slightly Sweet to run in Breeders Classic

Winter Stakes winner Slightly Sweet will make her return in the Group 2 Breeders’ Classic.

Dual Group Three winner Slightly Sweet will have a tough first-up assignment in the Breeders’ Classic but her trainer Jason Coyle is confident she is in for a good campaign.

She was one of eight mares entered on Monday for the Group Two 1200m-sprint at Warwick Farm, her home track.

The nominations are headed by Prompt Response and Egyptian Symbol who both have a rating of 103.

Slightly Sweet won the Listed Winter Stakes (1400m) and finished third in the Winter Challenge (1500m) two weeks later on July 29 before a spell.

She has had three barrier trials to get ready for her return.

“She will run on Saturday and we want to get her up to 1500 metres again,” Coyle said.

“If she is going well then hopefully she gets to the Coolmore Classic again.

Slightly Sweet ran eighth, just over three lengths behind the winner Peeping, in the 2016 Group One Coolmore for fillies and mares.

Coyle has nominated Memes to back up in a 1000m-race at Warwick Farm after a forgivable run when last of six in Saturday’s Group Two Expressway Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill.

“Her saddle went right back at the start of the race and that was the end of it,” he said.

“She just wanted to over-race then and the whole thing was forgettable.”

There were 12 nominations taken for the Group Three Eskimo Stakes (1200m) for three-year-olds and 18 for the Listed Lonhro Plate (1100m) for two-year-olds.

The meeting coincides with the opening session of the Inglis Classic sale at the auction house’s new premises at Warwick Farm.

The race day features two sales-restricted races, the $250,000 Inglis Classic (1200m) for two-year-olds and the $250,000 Inglis Sprint (1100m) for three-year-olds.

The star attractions in the Inglis Sprint are dual Group One winner She Will Reign and emerging Melbourne star Nature Strip.
