Sizzling Ace to step up at stakes level
Trainer Toby Edmonds is looking forward to what Sizzling Ace can do in a Group Two race before her high-profile stablemate Houtzen lines up in the Doomben 10,000.
Edmonds will have Sizzling Ace in Saturday’s Champagne Classic (1200m) a race which has been the launching pad for some top class gallopers over the years.
Sizzling Ace may be a maiden but there is no doubting her ability which to date has yielded two minor placings from four starts.
In all her races she has been hampered by bad barriers or the pace of the race.
“Her first-up third at Doomben was very good because she was basically run off her feet on a heavy track,” Edmonds said.
“I am keen to get her out in distance for some of the other feature two-year-old aces this winter but she needs to get her prize money up.”
The filly is well in the markets for the Group One J J Atkins Stakes with most betting agencies.
Sizzling Ace is by first season sire and 2012 Atkins winner Sizzling and like many of his progeny is getting better as the season goes on.
One of the main dangers to Sizzling Ace will be the Godolphin juvenile Dynamited.
Trainer James Cummings said Dynamited had been kept for the winter to give him a full chance to mature.
“We haven’t seen him at the races since November when he won on debut at Rosehill,” Cummings said.
“He’s come back looking incredible and should enjoy the step up to Group company here.”
“As a promising young horse he gets the opportunity this preparation to prove himself above average and he certainly appears to have the scope to go further.”
Houtzen, a $23 chance in the 10,000, will start from the outside barrier in her first test in open company.
