Sistine Saint to make debut at Caulfield

Caulfield trainer Andrew Noblet has a soft spot for the progeny of the mare Famous Painter.

The latest horse from Famous Painter to hit the racetrack will be two-year-old Sistine Saint at Caulfield on Saturday.

The gelding is a brother to the former Noblet-trained Group winning filly Sistine Angel and a half-brother to another of Noblet’s stakes winners, Sistine Demon.

Noblet paid $130,000 for Sistine Saint at last year’s Melbourne Inglis yearling sale and said he was much like his sister.

“He’s a bit later developing horse, very much like Sistine Angel in his colouring,” Noblet said.

“He’s probably just a male version of her but he was a late foal so he’s a bit behind the eight-ball hence starting him near the beginning of his three-year-old season.

“He’ll take a lot of improvement out of Saturday. I’m more going there for the fact it’s going to be a nice track and a suitable sort of distance for him.”

Sistine Saint is among 15 acceptors for the TROA Supports Jockeys Trust Handicap (1200m).

“He’s got ability and the family do get better as they get older,” Noblet said.

“I don’t think he’ll be going too far into the spring.

“I’d say he’ll be more of an autumn three-year-old.”

Noblet has trained three of Famous Painter’s five foals two race with three-year-old filly Sistine Spirit a winner of one of her seven starts so far.

He also trained Alma’s Angel who was retired to the breeding barn unraced after an unsuccessful throat operation.

“You get a soft spot for the family,” Noblet said.

“I’ve had very good success with both Sistine Angel and Sistine Demon.

“Sistine Spirit, I think she is a handy horse.

“Things just went a bit wrong last time in. Her first run was good then she went sore so we had to turn her out.

“She’s going to be back in pre-training soon.”

Sistine Angel’s two wins came in the 2010 Group Three McNeil Stakes and Group Two Edward Manifold Stakes while she finished second to Black Caviar in the 2012 Group One Robert Sangster Stakes.

Sistine Demon’s biggest win has been the Group Three Victoria Handicap in 2014.
