Short-priced favourite hits brickwall at Avondale
IF punters ever wanted a reason not to back the New Zealand gallops prior to the Australian races jumping off, we’ve found your deterrent.
Three-year-old gelding On The Nighttrain went around as a $1.55 favourite with online bookmaker Sportsbet to break through at the second time of asking in race 6 at Avondale on Wednesday.
After settling the horse towards the back of the field star jockey Opie Bosson allowed the son of Showcasing to run against the rail, assuming that a run would present from behind the early leader Rumour Has It.
As Super Vino made his run however, the option to come around the leader’s heels dried up, and with the slowing pacemaker sticking to the rails there as no way to take the inside alley.
Not @opie_bosson best ride there #Avondale R 6 on fav – horror show for #onthenightrain

What we were left to watch was an eased up $1.55 favourite finishing sixth in a seven horse field and what we would anticipate as a very sheepish Opie Bosson returning to scale.
For the record, Super Vino went on to record an impressive victory and return $4.60 with the online bookmakers.
It’s fair to say the punters weren’t happy with Bosson following his race 6 ride.
@opie_bosson worst f****n ride ever on On the Nighttrain Why you tried to squeeze between the first 2 was stupidity You had the whole straight if you waited for an outside run you could easily have had a chance to win the race
