Shane Bottomley to face RAD Board hearing

Cranbourne trainer Shane Bottomley has been charged with giving false evidence to stewards in relation to the death of a horse and improper conduct by performing his own autopsy on the mare.

Racing Victoria stewards allege Bottomley gave false, or misleading, evidence during a telephone interview on June 29 into the death of Comanderbrae Bonny.

They also allege that eight days earlier Bottomley engaged in misconduct, improper conduct and, or, unseemly behaviour when he performed a post-mortem examination before destroying the carcass without seeking the consent of the owner.

A date for a Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board hearing has yet to be set.

Fellow trainer Jason Warren has been fined a total of $5000 on three separate charges after Bel Sonic trialled at Werribee on May 28.

Bel Sonic returned a positive to the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory phenylbutazone, oxyphenbutazone as well as the cortico steroid triamcinolone acetonide.

Warren, who pleaded guilty, was fined $2000 on each charge and a further $1000 for giving Bel Sonic shockwave therapy on May 25, inside the seven clear day period before the trial.
