What | Sha Tin Races |
Where | Sha Tin Racecourse – Tai Po Rd, Sha Tin District, Hong Kong |
When | Sunday, May 25, 2025 |
First Race | 12.30pm HKT (2:30pm AEST) |
Feature racing returns to Sha Tin on Sunday afternoon, with the Group 1 Champions & Chater Cup (2400m) headlining a bumper 11-part program. The rail reverts to the A position the entire circuit, and although some rainfall is forecast for race day, warming conditions should have the surface maintain the Good 4 rating throughout proceedings. All the action is scheduled to get underway at 12:30pm local time.
Champions & Chater Cup Tip: Dubai Honour
European stayer Dubai Honour travels to Hong Kong after two strong performances in Australia, where the William Haggas-trained gelding claimed the Group 1 Tancred Stakes (2400m). He was then outclassed by Via Sistina in the 2025 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m), however, was clearly the best of the beaten brigade, closing to within 1.8 lengths despite sustaining a tough run in transit. He was luckless in the Group 1 Hong Kong Vase (2400m) in December, and with Dubai Honour set to get the run of the race from stall one, this guy will prove hard to hold out in his quest for a fifth Group 1 success.

Race 8 – #2 Dubai Honour (1)
7yo Gelding | T: William Haggas | J: Tom Marquand (57kg)
Best Bet at Sha Tin: Meowth
Meowth has been a shade disappointing since claiming victory in his Hong Kong debut, only finding the frame once in his next five starts. He appears to be suited dropping into Class 4 company, however, with the likes of Light Years Charm and Juneau Pride proving too testing last time out. Hugh Bowman gets the chance to slot into the one-one from gate two, and provided he can handle lugging the big weight (61kg), expect Meowth to justify favouritism with horse racing bookmakers.
Best Bet
Race 5 – #1 Meowth (2)
4yo Gelding | T: Cody Mo | J: Hugh Bowman (61kg)
Next Best at Sha Tin: Packing Hermod
Packing Hermod couldn’t have been more impressive at this course and distance on March 23, smashing the clock as he claimed his fifth win of the preparation. He hasn’t been sighted on race-day since, however, looks to be flying after two strong barrier trials leading into this Class 2 contest. Zac Purton will look to slot in for cover from barrier three, and provided the son of Rubick can unleash his devastating turn of speed, expect Packing Hermod to add a sixth win to the resume.
Next Best
Race 4 – #1 Packing Hermod (3)
4yo Gelding | T: Francis Lui | J: Zac Purton (61kg)
Best Value at Sha Tin: Invincible Ibis
Invincible Ibis appears poised to strike on debut, hitting the line well in a recent barrier trial at Sha Tin on May 16. The son of Hellbent idled to the top and cruised through the line under his own steam, suggesting the unraced three-year-old still had plenty left in the tank. Luke Ferraris should get every chance to land in a handy position from stall two, and provided he can overcome some more battle tested types, expect Invincible Ibis to figure in the finish at an each-way price with .
Best Value
Race 2 – #7 Invincible Ibis (2)
3yo Gelding | T: Mark Newnham | J: Luke Ferraris (57.5kg)
