Seq to star for owner/trainer Rex Lipp

Trainer Rex Lipp has a sentimental attachment to the promising Seq The Star who will make a belated Saturday city appearance at Doomben.

The winner of four of her past six starts on provincial tracks, Seq The Star gets a final chance to earn some QTIS bonus money in the Winning Edge 3YO (1200m).

Lipp bred Seq The Star who is by the late Sequalo out of the Lipp-owned unraced General Nediym mare Star of Kristle.

The Toowoomba trainer has had a lot of luck with the Sequalo breed with the best the BRC Sires’ Stakes winner Star Shiraz.

“The Sequalos have been good to me but Seq The Star is the last of them that I have,” Lipp said.

“She has always shown us plenty of ability but it has never really been the right time or race to bring her to town,” Lipp said.

“But Saturday’s race will suit her and she has drawn very well.”

Seq The Star has had one start at Doomben on a Wednesday when unplaced behind the handy Oberland, one of her opponents on Saturday.

“She didn’t have any luck that day and she is much better drawn here in two,” Lipp said.

Sequalo, who died in 2014, was one of Queensland’s most prolific winning sires with Group One winner Spirit Of Boom among his best.
