Schweida filly struts to Ipswich victory

The good news keeps coming trainer Kelly Schweida after his filly Darktown Strutter demolished a handy field of two-year-olds at Ipswich.

Schweida has had to nurse Darktown Strutter who has plenty of ability but can want to go too hard in her races in work.

He and jockey Glen Colless have put many hours into getting the filly to settle.

Darktown Strutter was having her second race start when she won by six lengths.

“She had no luck at her first start at Doomben late last year and we gave her plenty of time to get over it,” Schweida said.

Schweida gave plenty of credit to Colless for the win.

“Unfortunately, Glen is suspended and missed the ride but Jeff Lloyd got the job done in his absence.”

Schweida has had even brighter news with his Group One winner Miss Cover back in his stables after being sold for $500,000 at the Magic Millions Broodmare Sales on Tuesday.

“The new owners want me to get her ready for the Tatts Tiara,” he said.

Miss Cover Girl won last year’s Group One Tiara which was run at Eagle Farm but there are doubts over where it will be run this year.
