Sandown abandoned due to unsafe track
SANDOWN has been abandoned on Wednesday after jockeys took to a vote about the state of proceedings. The majority of jockeys voted for the meeting to be abandoned and stewards officially abandoned the meeting at 2pm.
The trouble came in the first race when hot-favourite Gridelin slipped around the home turn and subsequently finished second.
Jockeys quickly started testing the track, but it was deemed unsafe and racing will not continue. All bets placed on the remainder of the card will be refunded.
The news follows the unfortunate abandonment of Sydney’s Warwick Farm meeting.
