Russian Revolution remains unbeaten in Vain Stakes

Russian Revolution

IT’S not often Peter and Paul Snowden bring a horse to Melbourne that isn’t a star and Russian Revolution could well be their next stable gun.

The three-year-old colt by Snitzel took out the KS Environmental Vain Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday and remained unbeaten from three starts after winning on debut at Canterbury and scoring an easy win at Randwick last start.

Jockey Mark Zahra struggled to get down to the 55kg weight, but he gave the colt a great front-running ride and it was able to hold off the fast-finishing Highland Beat.

“He was all out with 100m to go,” Zahra said. “When he felt the horse inside him, he kicked hard.

“55’s my limit, but I’m just happy to have the opportunity to ride for the Snowdens.”

Jackson Beirs was on track representing the Snowdens and he believes Russian Revolution has a good future ahead of it.

“Really tough win, he’s a green horse, still learning his trade,” Beirs said. “They all had their chance to get him, but they couldn’t get there.

“He’s a young horse, he’s got plenty of ability, he’s a lovely colt.”

Much like its first two starts, Russian Revolution sat on the pace and it looked as though the outside runners had its measure, but the game three-year-old kicked strongly for Zahra and held them off impressively.

“It was a good front running ride and he’ll improve. He’s a horse Peter and Paul thought a lot of the first time he came to the stable,” Beirs said.

“We keep raising the bar and he keeps going over it.”

Beirs didn’t suggest where Russian Revolution would be running next, but Sportsbet.com.au currently has the smart Snitzel colt at $15 for the Group 1 Golden Rose on September 10.

It’s also $13 at Sportsbet for the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas on October 8 which appears the logical long-range target following Saturday’s win on the track.
