Rough Habit Plate betting tips & form – Saturday, 6 June 2020

Ballistic Boy betting news
Ballistic Boy will be trainer Chris Anderson’s only runner in the Rough Habit Plate at Eagle Farm.

There may not be a Queensland Derby this year, but the 3yo stayers will still get their chance at a black type win on Queensland’s biggest race day in the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate over 2200m. Five horses come out of the Gunsynd Classic behind Supergiant a fortnight ago over the Eagle Farm 1800m. Navy Cross will look to lead from Supergiant and Mishani Secret, while Chris Anderson’s Ballistic Boy will start favourite ahead of Supergiant.

Saturday racing tips for Rough Habit Plate 2020

Best Bet
Ballistic Boy @ $2.80

We are siding with the favourite Ballistic Boy to turn the tables on Supergiant. They hit the line together in the Gunsynd Classic, but the judge gave the photo to the latter. Out to 2200m on Saturday looks to suit Ballistic Boy down to the ground, albeit in his first go past 1800m. He maps to get a beautiful run from gate 12 under Brad Stewart and will be hitting the line very strongly. The Smart Missile gelding has been up for a while now, but he is racing consistently and his last run suggests there is no reason why he can’t go on with it. Watch for him finishing strongly down the middle of his home track right when it counts.

Next Best
Supergiant @ $3.90 Neds

You cannot take anything away from Supergiant, which has been brilliant in his two most recent runs. He finished a narrow second to Vanna Girl, which subsequently won on Saturday in the Pam O’Neill Stakes, before beating home Ballistic Boy with an all-the-way win in the Gunsynd Classic. He was running on tired legs in the final 100m over the 1800m, so the extra 400m is some concern. While he got it all his own way last start, he won’t get the same favours here with Navy Cross likely to take him on. He’ll have to do a bit of work early from barrier 11, but he will be a huge chance if Alan Chau can find the rails early again.

Best Value
Marakopa @ $14 Sportsbet

Marakopa has been good in winning his two most recent runs at 1800m at Toowoomba and the Sunshine Coast. Chris Waller and Jim Byrne combine on the Sacred Falls gelding, which looks to be crying out for the extra trip. He maps well from barrier nine and should find a spot just forward of midfield. Marakopa will need to find another gear to figure here at Group level after winning just a Maiden and a Class 1. Waller should have him peaking in this, so he is worth including in multiples.
