Rosehill

A cracking nine-race card has been assembled for Golden Rose Day at Rosehill on Saturday. The track is rated a Good 4 and the rail is true for the entirety of the course. Race 1 will be off at 12:25pm AEST, with the Group 1 feature scheduled for 4:10pm.

Saturday racing tips for Rosehill

Best BetRace 8 – Haut Brion Her Get the best odds

Chris Waller’s mare returned to the races with an emphatic victory in the Group 2 Sheraco Stakes two weeks ago, taking her record to six wins and three runner-up performances from nine starts. She has come back from an injury setback in terrific order, and we expect her to reach great heights this time in. She faces nine opponents who come out of the same race she does, while the negligible 0.5kg weight rise makes it hers for the taking in our books. James McDonald stays aboard and will have to deliver a special from the wide barrier (15), but we think Haut Brion Her is a mare who can make her own luck and tough it out.

Next BestRace 9 – Masked Crusader Get the best odds

We keep coming back to this talented son of Toronado, and he keeps burning us at a short quote. Third time’s a charm, but isn’t it? The four-year-old has been luckless in both starts this campaign, but we can rule out being caught wide from the list of excuses should he get beaten again. Up to 1400m with James McDonald from barrier two are all big ticks in our opinion, and we expect to see him back in the winner’s circle here. It’ll be by no means a walk in the park for the Hawkes-trained gelding, but he has a few things in his favour this time and should be too smart for them. Whether or not an Everest slot is still on the cards, connections will be hoping to see Masked Crusader live up to the spruik.

Best ValueRace 3 – Dadoozdart Get the best odds

In the same stable and silks as Masked Crusader, this ex-European galloper won four from eight in the Northern Hemisphere but failed to fire a shot in his first three starts in Australia. However, we liked what we saw seven days ago in the Group 3 Bill Ritchie when he finished off well to run fourth behind Probabeel. He strung three wins together at the end of last year in Ireland at distances of 2000m and 2500m, and he finally steps out in trip third up. In what is a fairly thin race, the Dawn Approach gelding can make a bid towards the Metropolitan with a good run. Jim Byrne is likely to settle in the back half of the field from barrier 14 and hit the line strongly.
