Rosehill midweek racing form and free tips, Wednesday February 22

Midweek tips

THE autumn carnival lead-up is providing racing punters with some great betting opportunities and the quality continues this Wednesday at Rosehill.

The premier Sydney surface hosts an eight-race card which features some highly-competitive Saturday grade fields, including the Casino Price at Vinery Handicap.

A field of 10 is expected to line up for the midweek cash and all the big stables are out in force to see their stayers making the rise in class.

Action kicks off at 1:05pm where a field mostly filled with debutantes takes to the track.

Race 1 – Tab Handicap (1100m)

Schubert is on debut for John O’Shea and his debutantes are running very well at the moment. The son of Lonhro finished second in a trial at Rosehill last month and it would have taken great benefit from that effort. Brenton Avdulla takes the ride which means it’s O’Shea’s best chance and it has drawn ideally in barrier five.

Gary Moore lines up Solar Patch which should have plenty of speed on debut. The son of Stratum ran second in a trial last month and has subsequently scored a narrow trial win on this track. It defeated a good field on that occasion and the betting will likely indicate its true winning chances. Corey Brown takes the ride, but he will have work to do from barrier 12.

Race 2 – So You Think @ Coolmore Handicap (1100m)

Brook Magic was steady on debut when finishing second behind Dracarys at Warwick Farm. The Joe Pride-trained filly didn’t completely handle the heavy track, but the firmer surface will suit here and it showed its dry-track abilities when scoring by 3.5 lengths in a trial. Corey Brown rides from barrier three and it should be competitive.

Majara is on debut for the Waterhouse/Bott team and it looked good at the trials. The two-year-old filly by Harbour Watch won at Warwick Farm by just under a length and it will likely go forward from barrier 10 and give them something to catch. It’s owned by Emirates Park so there’s plenty of expectation there and we think it could make it could make a winning debut.

Race 2 tip: Majara to win at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 3 – Theraces Handicap (2400m)

Macmissile has produced two consecutive wins and it should go well here with the light weight. The Bill Farrow-trained gelding carries only 51kg with Rachel King in the saddle and it has looked strong going forward and giving them something to catch. It would appreciate some easing of the track conditions, but this isn’t the greatest staying field so consider.

Most Exalted is the class horse of the field, but its winning strike rate is of concern. The James Cummings-trained gelding has won two from 17 starts, but it has been taking on tougher fields than this and it was only the heavy conditions that stopped it last start. Its trial effort at Randwick since was good and it should be in the thick of the finish.

Race 3 tip: Most Exalted to win at CrownBet.com.au

Race 4 – Casino Price @ Vinery Handicap (1800m)

Dawn Hall is a last start winner for Chris Waller which looks a real improver. The three-year-old by Fastnet Rock ran fifth on debut at Randwick, but it produced a quality 2.3-length victory at Canterbury last start and punters should expect another premium effort. Kerrin McEvoy takes the ride from barrier four and it is a well-weighted runner.

Impavido was an upset winner on debut at Kembla Grange and its subsequent run at Beaumont can be forgiven. The Bjorn Baker-trained gelding should improve with racing being by High Chaparral and the rise in distance to 1800m looks perfect. Watch the betting market for any indication, but it should prove its worth at each way odds.

Race 4 tip: Dawn Hall to win at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 5 – Tab Rewards Handicap (1300m)

Rock And Swing showed talent by winning on debut at Warwick Farm over a quality field, but it hasn’t been overly flash since. The three-year-old by Fastnet Rock finished 11th at Rosehill behind the likes of Attention and Prized Icon and it’s meeting a much easier field at midweek level. It should get a good trip in transit from barrier two and Joshua Parr takes the ride.

Princess Posh has won its last two races in style and it has been running good times. The Kris Lees-trained filly rises in weight for this which won’t help, but it looks capable of carrying it and more wins are in store this season. This is one of the hardest races on the card at Rosehill, but Avdulla rides and it looks one of the top chances.

Race 5 tip: Princess Posh to place at WilliamHill.com.au

Race 6 – Robrick Lodge Handicap (1400m)

No Doubt gets in well on the weights at 53kg and it looks a top threat. The Anthony Cummings-trained four-year-old finished fifth at Warwick Farm last start when well-backed, but it would have improved from that run and its form last campaign suggested that it has plenty of ability. It has plenty of upside and the weight advantage makes it tough to beat.

Art Nouveau produced a quality campaign last time in, but it has been unable to reproduce that in three runs this campaign. The O’Shea-trained gelding drops in grade for this after finishing 10th behind Deploy at Randwick and punters will now be forced to take it on trust. It placed in its only start on this track and it could give each way punters something to think about.

Race 6 tip: No Doubt to win at CrownBet.com.au

Race 7 – Tab.com.au Handicap (1400m)

California Nike was a quality winner at Beaumont last start when beating Static Lift by just under a half-length. The Snowden-trained gelding is second-up here where it has placed at its only other start and there is a fair amount of pace with the three-year-old. Must be considered here despite the weight of 58kg.

Potent Force is another last start winner which is starting a new campaign. The Cummings-trained son of Fastnet Rock scored by just over a length at Canterbury in October and it has since placed in a trial at Randwick. It looks well-placed here to score the prize and it gets in well on the weights.

Race 7 tip: California Nike to win at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 8 – Schweppes Handicap (1400m)

Chandana finished third when fresh up last start and it looked good running second in a trial at Rosehill earlier this month. The Waller-trained four-year-old showed glimpses of form throughout its previous campaign and this looks a winnable race from the inside barrier.

Hussterical scored a narrow win at Hawkesbury last start and it looks the type to kick on with it. The Waterhouse/Bott-trained filly is twice a winner from six career starts and the Darby Racing Group is having great success recently. It has yet to race at Rosehill, but it’s not a demanding track and it only needs luck from the wide barrier.

Race 8 tip: Chandana to win at Sportsbet.com.au
