Rosehill Gardens betting tips – Saturday, 12 September 2020

Rosehill

A superb nine-race card has been assembled for Theo Marks Stakes Day at Rosehill Gardens this weekend. We can expect to be racing on a Soft 5, with drying conditions throughout the afternoon. The rail goes to the +6m position for the entire course, with the first race jumping at 12:15pm AEST.

Saturday racing tips for Rosehill Gardens

Best Bet
Race 6 – Farnan @ $2.40

The Golden Slipper winner returns in arguably the race of the afternoon, the Group 2 Run To The Rose. It’s a small field of seven, but it is jam-packed with quality. Farnan runs the favourite ahead of Rothfire and North Pacific, with Peltzer, Mamaragan, King’s Legacy and Ole Kirk also engaged. Hugh Bowman makes his racing return after serving a six-week suspension, just in time to be reunited with Farnan. Drawn out in barrier six, the colt should show enough early speed to come across and lead this field and use the blistering turn of foot we saw in his most recent trial. He can do it on both good and soft going, so there will be no issue if we see a track upgrade throughout the afternoon. He’s undefeated here at Rosehill and looks to be the top seed heading into the Golden Rose in a fortnight.

Next Best
Race 4 – Masked Crusader @ $2

Team Hawkes saddle up Masked Crusader in a race that he looks perfectly suited to. He has drawn wide in barrier 10, so we expect Tommy Berry to take a sit on the gelding and go home over the top of them. He clocked the quickest race sectionals of the entire meeting at his last outing when beaten half a length by Varda after he blew the start. He gets onto a drier track here with race fitness on his side, so he should win this comfortably. They still have The Everest in mind with him, so you’d expect to see him win a Benchmark 88 race on his trek. We should see the real Masked Crusader tomorrow, which will have him back in the winner’s circle.

Best Value
Race 6 – Farnan @ $2.40

Chris Waller’s Yonkers was a brilliant placegetter behind McCormack first up off a break over an unsuitable 1400m trip. The five-year-old gelding has never missed a place when second up (4:2-1-1) and holds a perfect record over the 1800m journey. From barrier 11, Louise Day should push forward and put her mount into the race given the lack of speed on paper. Her 3kg claim gets the weight down to 58kg, which puts the gelding on level terms with the race favourite, She’s Ideel. We expect Yonkers to be right there in the finish and put in a potential bid towards the Metropolitan Handicap as a genuine lightweight chance.
