Rosehill racing tips

Rosehill Gardens will host nine races this Saturday on what will be another very heavy Sydney track. Two Listed events highlight the card in the W J McKell Cup and the Civic Stakes. The rail goes out 2m for the entirety of the course, with the track rated a Heavy 9. Race 1 is set to jump at 11:35am AEST.

Saturday racing tips for Rosehill Gardens

Best Bet
Race 5 – Time To Reign @ $4.50

Not many horses have a win against Bivouac to their name, but one that does is Gary Portelli’s Time To Reign. First up since a fourth at Flemington at the beginning of the year, the Time For War colt looks ready to win after a nice trial at Warwick Farm two weeks ago. The one-time Golden Slipper favourite bodes an unbeaten record over the 1100m at Rosehill Gardens, which includes the Group 2 Silver Slipper. From barrier eight, Glen Boss will push forward and hope that class prevails. Time To Reign is two from two on a soft track but has never placed on a heavy from as many starts, although those runs ended in a fifth in the Golden Slipper and a fourth in the Listed Lonhro Plate behind Bivouac and Cosmic Force. The talented colt should give this a shake first up off a spell.

Next Best
Race 8 – Night Of Power @ $3.90

You won’t see many better trials than what Night Of Power produced before his first-up run when he finished midfield. Typically, the 5yo needs the run when fresh and fires second up (3:2-1-0), which is what we are hoping for here. Bjorn Baker has booked leading jockey James McDonald again for this assignment, which is a huge advantage. He handles the wet, finishing in the numbers on four occasions from six races on soggy surfaces. Out of barrier three, JMac will not be far away and should be bustling his way clear in the straight. Second up at 1500m looks the go for Night Of Power to get his second Australian win.

Best Value
Race 7 – Sambro @ $11

Chris Waller’s Sambro finds himself in a suitable race fourth up into his campaign. The 5yo has finished in the placings in his last two runs and has had a handy tune-up trial since his last race. James McDonald will have to produce a good ride from barrier 11, but we can bet on the premiership-winning jockey having a few tricks up his sleeve. There is enough speed on paper to set it up for Sambro to finish off strongly over the top after settling slightly better than midfield. He is a heavy-track winner and races very consistently at this distance. The let up between runs and soft trial could be a master stroke from Waller, and we think Sambro can be peaking in this at $11.
