Rockhampton tips & form for Friday, March 2
ROCKHAMPTON returns this Friday for a rock-solid seven race card.
The Queensland venue always puts on an entertaining meet, so let’s take a look at the races and pick a winner for each one.

Race 1 – Open Handicap (1100m)

Legal Ties looks to be the runner to beat here. The Spirit Of Boom filly consistently jumps as a short-priced favourite, but has only registered one win from three starts. Still, we have high hopes for the three-year-old and progress through grades.

Race 2 – Open Handicap (1200m)

Starante has been in good form over the last two runs, winning and just missing out by a nose in that time-frame. The horse is only carrying 54kg, which we think will be beneficial here.

Race 3 – Maiden (1300m)

Back-to-back placings leading into this event boosts our confidence that Doogus can breakthrough at the fifth time of asking. From gate three it will be one of the top elects.

Race 4 – Benchmark 55 (1050m)

It may not have a second-up win across four attempts but Magitorial’s first-up run suggests to us it can improve markedly. As a huge outsider the horse rounded out the first-four at Townsville on February 2 and we believe it will step-up following the resumption.

Race 5 – Open Handicap (1100m)

Toxophily has a first-up win in the past and was in terrific form prior to being turned out. The filly won three-straight races and a third placing. The horse will need to step it up in this one, but we think it can deliver fresh.

Race 6 – Benchmark 70 (1400m)

Bradman was a last-start winner at this grade last time out and the only thing stopping it from doing it once again will be a rise in weight. Thankfully the horse gets a great gate here and we believe it will be right in the finish.

Race 7 – Benchmark 65 (1200m)

A consistent set of results this preparation suggests to us that Mystic Forces can win this race. The five-year-old has placed in five-straight races, four of which came this preparation. We’re backing it in to finish the day off in winning fashion.
