Rockhampton racing tips & best bets – Friday, 4 September 2020

Rockhampton racing news

We are back racing at Rockhampton on Friday afternoon for a ripping eight-race card. The track is rated a Good 4 and the rail is back in the true position for the entire circumference of the course, which should make for a cracking afternoon’s racing. Race 1 is scheduled for 1:03pm AEST, with the last going around at 5:20pm.

Best Bet
Race 3 – Chezblack @ $1.95

We made this talented mare our best bet back on August 11, and she saluted when heavily backed ($5 into $2.80) to get the job done by a length. That dominant win came at Class 6 level, and she now drops back to Class 5 and faces a 3kg rise in weight for her troubles. Justin Stanley stays aboard the Foxwedge mare and will look to repeat the ride that got them home last time out. From barrier three, Chezblack is likely to settle towards the rear again and utilise the big Rockhampton straight to finish over the top of them. She faces a tougher ask here against some quality opposition, but she is fit and firing fourth up and should be too good for them over 1050m.

Next Best
Race 5 – Chinchinbilla @ $4.80

Bevan Johnson’s gritty gelding makes his racing return after a three-month let up following a bulletproof campaign where he won four of eight and ran second in a further two races. He seems to love Rocky (5:3-2-0), where he gets out in front and rolls along. He will be able to do just that from barrier one under regular rider Dakota Graham, who claims 2kg. Chinchinbilla has won fresh and placed at his only prior start over 1300m. Given his country racing record, the hard track at Rocky will be perfect first up as he looks to pick up where he left off in the autumn.

Best Value
Race 7 – Windchill @ $14

Windchill was scratched from the final event on the program in preference for this Class 3 plate, where he gets in on the minimum and is drawn perfectly in barrier three. From the soft draw, Corey Bayliss will be able to settle handy to the speed and make it win number two on the Fastnet Rock mare. There is some good form around her; Law Office finished 10L back in Windchill’s maiden victory and is a subsequent winner, while Coach beat her last start at this track and went on to win at Emerald on Tuesday. Staying at 1600m will suit Windchill in a race that isn’t overly strong.
