Well-bred filly Rock Giselle has put herself in the frame to emulate her mother by chasing an Oaks win.

The Lee and Anthony Freedman-trained Rock Giselle broke through for a maiden win in Wednesday’s Argyle Maintenance Plate (1500m) at Sandown at her fifth start.

Rock Giselle is by Fastnet Rock out of Dizelle who won the 2005 Group One Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick.

While Rock Giselle holds a nomination for next month’s Australian Oaks, the filly is more likely to head towards the Group One Australasian Oaks (2000m) in Adelaide.

Rock Giselle finished three lengths second to the promising Montoya’s Secret last start at Pakenham, with that filly winning easily again at Moonee Valley on Monday.

She came from worse than midfield in Wednesday’s race to beat Mutin, who also ran on from behind, by three-quarters of a length with Night Sight 1-3/4 lengths away.

“As she’s got further into her preparation she’s improved and it’s good to see her knock her maiden over,” stable representative Steve Adams said.

“Her mum won an Australian Oaks so I think further the better for her.

“I think Lee and Anthony had in mind to head towards Adelaide for the Oaks there if she could win today, so that’s a definite option.”

Trainer Nigel Blackiston is also looking to Adelaide with three-year-old filly Fastbrook with the Listed Laelia Stakes (1600m) on April 8 an aim after she broke through at her third start with victory in Wednesday’s Elaren Security Services Handicap (1300m).

“She’s a nice filly,” Blackiston said.

“She needed to come here today and prove herself because there’s a nice Listed race in Adelaide coming up.”

Apprentice Mitchell Aitken, meanwhile, was dumped off Spur On Gold past the post after they finished last in a 3000m race on Wednesday.

Stewards said Aitken suffered a suspected fractured nose and slight concussion and was taken to hospital for observation.
