Robert Sangster Stakes tips: best bets at Morphettville, May 4

The South Australian Winter Carnival kicks off this weekend and the team at Horse Betting HQ is delivering your best tips and betting strategy for the day.

The headline event is the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) but there’s still plenty of great events to go through on the eight race card.

Let’s get stuck into the tips and best bets this Saturday.

Race 1 – Queen Adelaide Stakes (1050m)

Absolute Flirt resumed sharply to win her maiden event at Sandown, winning by just under a length a half on April 22.

The filly drops half a kilo after that effort and draws well to deliver back-to-back wins for the first time in her career.

Absolute Flirt should make it two wins from as many starts to kick off the program.

Race 2 – Open Handicap (1600m)

The highly consistent Hussybay comes into this race on the back of a strong showing at this track a week ago, winning by a nose in listed company ahead of Flying Krupt.

The horse comes into this race third-up, where he has recorded two wins from four starts at this point of the preparation. From the perfect gate and with the queen of the turf Jamie Kah taking the steer we’re making Hussybay our next best bet of the day.

Race 3 – DC Mckay Stakes (1100m)

Godolphin star in the making Haunted should be delivering another win in this event.

The son of Lonhro has won exactly half of it’s 12 starts to date and only missed the placings once since debuting in March 2018.

Haunted steamrolled Dollar For Dollar first-up on April 20 and comes into this second-up where he has never missed a placing.

Haunted is our best bet of the day at Morphettville.

Race 4 – BM90 (2000m)

Handsome Return draws nicely to continue the strong campaign. From six runs this preparation the horse has won three times and placed a further two times.

The last outing was particularly impressive, beating out a horse we have a high opinion of in the form of Bass.

Handsome Return draws nicely and should be right in the mix in the shadows of the post.

Race 5 – Queen Of The South (1600m)

Pretty Glass is at big odds for this event but based on its recent form it’s hard not to get excited by her chances.

In the mare’s last six starts she has delivered three wins including a handy win at Oakbank by a neat length over the highly fancied Tan Tat Trusting.

Shop early because we think Pretty Glass should come right in from the huge $20 price.

Race 6 – Australasian Oaks (2000m)

Princess Jenni comes into the Australasian Oaks as the deserved favourite in a tough race to pick.

The horse is hunting a hattrick, including a win at Group 3 level at Moonee Valley back on March 22. The filly is in the form of her life and we’re backing Princess Jenni to deliver a third-straight win.

Race 7 – Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m)

Thrillster comes into the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes after a promising first-up run, finishing second behind Graceful Storm.

The filly comes into this event looking to maintain a spectacular second-up record which has seen her win twice from as many attempts. The distance is also a pet journey for Thrillster, who has won twice and finished second once from three trips at the 1200m.

Back in Thrillster with confidence.

Race 8 – Euclase Stakes (1200m)

We love Terbium at Horse Betting HQ and we’re certain the champ makes it five wins straight to start his career.

The gelding absolutely wiped the floor with the field in his last start victory in the Group 3 Zeditave Stakes, beating the odds on pop in Zousain.

Terbium trailed sharply in the lead up to this and we’re backing him to deliver in the final event on the Morphettville card.
