Rising Romance in peak order for QEII bid

David Hayes can expect to find Rising Romance in the same condition as she was before leaving Australia when he lands in Hong Kong.

Hayes will fly into Hong Kong on Wednesday as Rising Romance tries to improve on ex-stablemate Criterion’s third placing in last year’s QEII Cup at Sha Tin.

Rising Romance was allowed to stretch her legs on the Sha Tin turf course on Tuesday morning, galloping over 800m in 59.8 seconds and finishing off from the 400m in 27.7 seconds.

Travelling foreman Jacob Jelfs said Rising Romance’s work reflected her well-being since finishing fourth to Lucia Valentina in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick.

“All the indicators are positive at this stage,” Jelfs said.

“She arrived here fit, she looks well, she looks good in the coat and overall she’s a very straightforward mare.

“She doesn’t need to do much here and this morning she wasn’t out to run any quicker than she did. The rider’s happy and that’s the main thing as she knows her well.”
