Rebel Dane jumping into Premiere

With all the extra curricular activities Rebel Dane has been doing, he might think he’s on holidays.

It is anything but, with trainer Gary Portelli trying to find a way to get the seven-year-old switched on again for racing after a disappointing last-start performance.

“He’s been over the jumps. He loved it and for a first-timer he was really good at it,” Portelli said.

” We’re going to the beach this week for something different again and we’ll see how he likes that.

“I can’t fault him but he was disappointing last time and didn’t finish off his race.

“The plan is to run him in the Premiere Stakes in two weeks and hopefully he can get back to winning form.”

The winner of the 2013 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, Rebel Dane has performed well at the highest level since without winning another Group One race.

A year ago he won the Group Two Shorts and finished second to Terravista in the Premiere Stakes before running third in the Manikato Stakes won by Chautauqua.

He has had three starts this campaign for a second to Tycoon Tara in the Missile Stakes and third behind Winx and Hartnell in the Warwick Stakes.

But his sixth in the Theo Marks Stakes won by Mackintosh concerned his trainer.

“He didn’t finish the race off as he normally would,” Portelli said.

“Hopefully it was just a one-off.”
