Rawiller puts Real Love to the test

Brad Rawiller has put his Brisbane Cup mount Real Love through a solid work-out at the Sunshine Coast.

The Darren Weir-trained mare galloped between races on Sunday with her stablemate Howard Be Thy Name, the Queensland Derby equal favourite.

Rawiller will ride both horses at Eagle Farm on Saturday with Damian Browne filling on South Australian Derby winner Howard Be Thy Name in the gallop.

The two worked over 1600 metres and Rawiller was pleased with how they both went.

Formerly trained in Western Australia, Real Love has won three races since joining Weir in Victoria and been placed on the other four occasions and is thriving despite being in work since October.

“She has kept improving each time,” Rawiller told Sky Thoroughbred Central.

Real Love has won two Group Three races in Brisbane, the JRA Cup and the Premier’s Cup on her way to the Group Two Brisbane Cup (2400m).

Among her recent placings is a third in the Adelaide Cup.

Rawiller was riding the Weir runners in Brisbane on May 14 when Howard Be Thy Name won the South Australian Derby under John Allen.

He was back aboard when the colt ran a close third to Queensland Derby equal favourite Mackintosh in the Grand Prix Stakes.

“He keeps stepping up,” Rawiller said.

“He is ten lengths better now than when he won the Tasmanian Derby.”

Rawiller also rides leading Stradbroke contender Black Heart Bart having steered him to win the Group One Goodwood at Morphettville on May 21.

“I think he will be even better over 1400 metres than 1200,” he said.

“I can’t wait till Saturday.”
