Rawiller appeals severity of latest ban

Brad Rawiller’s hopes of a second Group One win on Black Heart Bart rest with his appeal against the severity of a careless riding suspension.

Rawiller won Saturday’s Group One Memsie Stakes on Black Heart Bart but will miss the gelding’s next scheduled start in the Group One Makybe Diva (1600m) at Flemington on September 10 unless he is successful in having the seven-meeting ban reduced.

He was outed for his Memsie ride and his appeal will be heard on Tuesday morning.

It will be the second day in a row Rawiller has fronted the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board.

He had a 10-meeting suspension from Sandown last Wednesday reduced to seven on appeal on Monday.

Stewards held off delivering Rawiller’s penalty from Saturday’s infringement until after the result of Monday’s appeal.

As things stand, Rawiller’s back-to-back suspensions means he is unable to return to race riding until the day after the Makybe Diva Stakes.
