Randwick racing tips & best bets – Saturday, 6 June 2020

Classique Legend
Classique Legend is aiming for his first win in over a year this Saturday at Randwick.

Royal Randwick plays host to nine quality races on Saturday, highlighted by the Listed Bob Charley AO Stakes over 1100m. The track is rated a Heavy 8 with the rail out 9m for the entire course. We could see the track favouring those on speed again, so it will be important to watch the first few races. The first race jumps at 11:25am AEST, with the last at 4:25pm.

Best Bet
Race 7 – Classique Legend @ $2.60

Saturday sees the return of spruik horse Classique Legend in the feature race. In what has been dubbed as a one-race campaign to get an easy kill by trainer Les Bridge, it looks as though the luckless Everest sixth-place runner gets every chance to return to the winner’s stall for the first time in over a year. The 4yo gelding has never missed a place on a rain-affected track and does some of his best work fresh from a break, which we saw when he got beaten only half a length in the Group 2 The Shorts behind Pierata in the spring. Drawn out in 13, Kerrin McEvoy will stroll across and sit just off the pace. His recent trial suggests he can win this before returning to the paddock for a second Everest tilt.

Best Bet
Race 5 – Burning Crown @ $2.90

Hugh Bowman hops on board the talented Burning Crown for the first time in what will be the gelding’s third run this campaign. The 4yo returned a winner on a Heavy 8 track at Warwick Farm before battling away to run third last time behind the smart Dirty Work. The son of Helmet has won four times from 11 starts when sent around as favourite and maps perfectly to make it a fifth. Getting to 1200m for the first time this prep and having missed the placings at that distance only once, he should box seat from barrier seven and prove too strong late on the wet track.

Best Value
Race 3 – Bad Boy For Love @ $15

Put a pen through Bad Boy For Love’s last start when he found all rump and no open air. That was in a similar race against similar opponents, so he has to be considered a great chance if he can find clear air. The son of Wanted has won on a wet track before and has never missed the quinella at the 1100m. Drawn awkwardly in barrier 17, he will get back again and run on in a race with a lot of speed. Kerrin McEvoy hops on the 4yo, which is a massive advantage. The $15 is a hefty quote for a horse that had no luck whatsoever last start.
