A massive nine race card has been assembled for Royal Randwick on Saturday, headlined by three Group 1 features including the Flight Stakes, The Metropolitan and the Epsom Handicap. The track is rated a Good 4 with the rail in the +3m position for the entire circumference. Race 1 will jump at 12:25pm, with the Epsom Handicap to start at 4:05pm.
Les Bridge’s big grey looks perfectly placed here in the Group 2 Premiere Stakes. After winning brilliantly first up in The Shorts, he looks to have come back in terrific order. With The Everest just two weeks away, we expect him to only get better enroute to his grand final. Barrier seven gives Kerrin McEvoy every chance to take up a good position just off the pace and stalk race favourite Nature Strip everywhere he goes. He is a winner of three from six at Randwick and will appreciate the step up to 1200m where he’s got a formidable record (5:2-0-2). We think he will upset the favourite and be dominant here.

James Cummings’ four-year-old mare Athiri is shooting for two in a row in the last race of the day. She was unlucky not to win first-up this prep and then was boxed in with absolutely nowhere to go second-up, before getting onto a dry deck and absolutely bolting in last time out. Rachel King took the ride that day and keeps it here which is beneficial. Drawn low in barrier two, King should give the talented mare every chance and be too good again here. The good track is a huge advantage as both of her wins have come on good going.

Another from the Godolphin stable is two-year-old first starter, Athelric. While betting into a race where nothing has had a start before and we only have trials to go off, but we did like the way Athelric went about his work. He finished a close second to Maurice’s Medad in an 845m Randwick jump out and gains the services of Nash Rawiller here. Barrier nine will see him relax and drop his head and unleash in the straight. James Cummings spoke highly of the Exceed And Excel colt who is out of a winning sister to stable stalwart, Old North. $14.00 appeals from a cautious each-way perspective.
