Randwick quaddie odds and tips, Saturday October 22

Quaddie

IT might be Cox Plate day in Melbourne, but Randwick hosts a strong quaddie this Saturday and we have all the form, odds and free tips.

There is no major race on the card at Randwick, but the fields are sizable and we think the quaddie is within punters reach.

All four quaddie legs are worth $100,000 and some of Sydney’s best up-and-coming thoroughbreds are in action which includes Daysee Doom, Meiner Freccia and Moher which has strong form and could play as an anchor in the final leg at 5.55pm.

It all starts at 3.55pm with the IGA Liquor Handicap and you can place your quaddie bets with Sportsbet.com.au which has every race covered this Saturday.

Leg 1 – IGA Liquor R81 Handicap (2000m)

Broadside is the horse to beat in the opening leg following its last start win on this track. The Waterhouse/Bott-trained gelding came over from New Zealand with good form and that has continued in Australia with two wins from its last three starts. The five-year-old will enjoy having another run at the 2000m and the $2.80 available is a respectable price.

Vassal is a handy stayer from the Chris Waller stables which won over this distance in May at Randwick. The five-year-old gets some weight off its back with Andrew Adkins in the saddle and it has yet to finish out of the money in three starts on this track. Top weight for a reason and $4.80 is a nice price.

Encosta Line is only a two-win gelding from 19 starts, but it was narrowly beaten last start and it didn’t have much luck during the run. It was caught three wide throughout before leading most of the way until race-rival Tower Of Song ran it down on the line. It has placed three times on this track and it should be included in quaddie bets.

Leg 1 tips: 1, 4, 5

Leg 2 – Alconex Fire R75 Handicap (1400m)

Circular has been running on well this campaign and it’s overdue a win. The four-year-old showed its ability when beating Encosta Line by 1.5 lengths in April and this is its best distance with one win and three placings from four starts. It gets 3kg off its back from Nick Heywood and the $7.50 is a good each way price for quaddie punters.

Daysee Doom is a value runner at $8 following its last start fourth at Canterbury. The four-year-old put three wins together earlier this year before spelling and although it hasn’t won in two starts this preparation, it needed the fitness and this distance should now suit. It hasn’t paid more than $6 in its last five starts so the $8 is a great price.

Dixie Chick was luckless last start at Randwick and its form suggests it will be tough to beat here. The David Pfieffer-trained mare finished second behind Faith’s Encore at Warwick Farm two back and it drops back in grade from its last start. Not weighted overly well, but include at $3.80.

Leg 2 tips: 1, 2, 10

Leg 3 – Capital Bluestone R84 Handicap (1600m)

Happy Hannah has plenty of ability and its run behind Dixie Blossoms last start was full of merit. The four-year-old is a lightly-tried type which has had eight starts for two wins and three placings, and it has competed at a very high level. It ran third in the Vinery Stud Stakes at Rosehill behind Single Gaze and a return to that form would take it close. Current equal favourite at $4.80.

More To Gain has form behind Antonio Giuseppe which bodes well for this. The four-year-old finished second behind the subsequent Metropolitan placegetter last start and it drops down to 56.5kg for this after carrying 59kg last time out. Has been well supported at $5.50.

Falkenberg is better suited over more ground, but it could surprise second up. The Snowden-trained mare has placed twice second up and despite running poorly last start in the October Handicap, that race wasn’t suitable and quick improvement is expected. $11 available for value punters.

Leg 3 tips: 2, 3, 7

Leg 4 – Schweppes R78 Handicap (1400m)

Moher is a strong chance in the final leg following its last start placing behind Invinzabeel on this track. The John O’Shea-trained gelding indicated that a good run is on the horizon and it has taken on harder company than this. It finished only 2.3 lengths behind He’s Our Rokki in the Carbine and it should go well here at $4.40.

Kandinsky is a lightly-tried four-year-old which won on debut before narrowly tasting defeat at Canterbury last start. It has drawn wide in barrier 16 and it rises in grade for this, but it has been well supported at $5 and Tommy Berry is a good jockey to have in the saddle with most of the top jockeys being in Melbourne.

Choice We Had finished third behind Morton’s Fork last start and that form should stack up nicely. The son of Choisir has won at this distance and it won’t worry about track conditions. Drawn ideally in barrier two and it is being respected at $5.50.

Leg 4 tips: 2, 12, 13
