Kerrin McEvoy has delivered a riding masterclass aboard five-year-old Ravi to win the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes at Rosehill.

McEvoy gave the mare a beautifully patient ride into the race and produced the Snowden-trained star at the right time to streak away from the field and return $7.20 to WilliamHill.com.au customers.

Perizada closed well in a barnstorming finish to claim second and return $5 at Crownbet.com.au while Daysee Doom rounded out the placings and delivered $2.20 to Sportsbet.com.au clients.

Co-trainer Peter Snowdon was full of praise for McEvoy’s ride in the aftermath.

“Gun ride,” Snowden said.

“We wanted to be a bit positive early, she stepped well, looked like she was going to get caught three deep but Kerrin persevered and got into a great spot. She travelled really well and there was a lot to like about her last 200m, she was very strong.”

Snowden said it was a “great result” for the horse given it was first-up on Saturday.

“I thought we might have been a bit ambitious.

“I thought she had the ability to win a race like this but her form last time in was tapering off, mainly because she was just getting too far back in her races and she cost herself a few times. We committed to changing that around this time in and it seems to have worked.

“She won with authority.”

It was a more polished performance by Ravi on Saturday, which jumped much better from the barrier than it has on previous attempts.

Kerrin McEvoy said the newly found gate speed was a testament to the work of the Snowdens.

“She’s a quality race mare. She’d just been fluffing the start, getting out the back and having bad luck. They were in good races and she wasn’t having the rub of the green.

“Peter and Paul just decided to get her out of the barriers better and get her into a better spot. She’s racing much more tractably now. She had a good run there and has shown a superior turn of foot. She has won nicely.”

McEvoy said he hopes he can continue to partner the horse going forward in this preparation.

“She loves spring. She’s already won a couple of nice races. She’s in great order.

“I enjoy riding her, I’ve ridden her a lot and hopefully I can stick on her.”
