Raconteur Stakes tips, odds & value bets – Saturday, 6 June 2020

Laverrod racing news
Laverrod looms as the horse to beat in Saturday’s Raconteur Stakes at Belmont.

Listed racing heads to Belmont again in the country’s west with the Raconteur Stakes for three-year-olds over 1400m. The rail goes out 8m for the entire circumference of the course, which could play an advantage towards those on speed. The talented Laverrod will jump the even-money favourite in a bid to make it three wins on the trot and a fifth career victory from just the 11 starts. He will look to get the lead to himself from barrier three.

Best Bet
Laverrod @ $1.95

It’s hard to knock Laverrod’s form at the minute with two devastating wins in his most recent outings. The Toronado gelding is yet to miss a place from 10 starts, with four wins and six placings. He will be shooting for his first win at Belmont at his third attempt and he looks beautifully placed to do so. Patrick Carberry retains the ride and should go forward from the soft gate. He appears to be well weighted and will get every chance in the small field. We expect the favourite to deliver.

Next Best
Kay Cee @ $3.40 Sportsbet

Kay Cee is the clear danger to the favourite and the market reflects that. The filly hasn’t raced since beating the likes of Gailo Chop and Best Of Days to win the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic in December. Neville Parnham’s filly tops the weights, which is some concern against Laverrod, but she does have the class. From barrier six, Steven Parnham will quite possibly push forward and stalk the favourite to give us an entertaining finish. She has won two nice trials in the last month and will appreciate the 1400m first up. Big danger.

Best Value
Marocchino @ $26 Neds

On the seven-day return is the Lou Luciani gelding Marocchino. Finishing fourth last weekend behind Indian Pacific and the talented Windstorm looks to be good enough form for this. Jason Whiting will slide forward from barrier five and take advantage of the 3kg drop in weights. The gelding has placed three times from nine starts, all at this track. Marocchino will have to improve, but he can find his way into the placings with the right run.
