Quiet Reflection wins second G1 sprint
Quiet Reflection has sent a loud and clear message she might be the sprinter of a lifetime with her second Group One success of the season in the Sprint Cup at Haydock.
The Karl Burke-trained three-year-old won the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot and had been aimed at Haydock since her third in the July Cup won by Limato.
With Limato ruled out of the Sprint Cup because of the rain-softened ground, Quiet Reflection was sent off the 7-2 favourite.
Under regular partner Dougie Costello, she handled the tough conditions to beat The Tin Man by 1-3/4 lengths.
She will now head to Ascot for the Qipco British Champions Sprint on October 15.
“That was a great performance. I knew she’d improved and strengthened. She’s such a straightforward filly,” Burke said.
“I know we wanted a bit of rain, but I was a bit worried when it got this soft as I thought it might play into the hands of the older horses.
“She’ll go to Ascot next for the Champions Sprint and I’m praying she stays well and sound so she can stay in training next year.”
Former jump jockey Costello still cannot believe his luck to be riding such a talented horse.
“I’ve never ridden anything like it and probably never will again,” he said.
“She’s push-button go. She’s the real deal.
“I’ve been lucky enough to get a big one in the bag.”
