Quaddie tips for Thursday, March 23 races at Seymour

quaddie tips
OUR form guide turns to country Victoria for the Thursday quaddie this week as Seymour hosts a fascinating eight-race card.

There are plenty of city-grade horses running around and a few that we have seen before in quaddies of days gone by.

Last week we got two from four in our Pakenham quaddie, but this week, we’re taking a few more runners in the trickier races to engineer that dividend.

Race five on the card at Seymour is the Peter Neylan Memorial bench mark 58, which kicks off the quaddie at 3.30 pm.

Race 5 – Peter Neylan Memorial BM58 (1000m)

The first leg of the journey is over the short course and we’ve found three runners that stand above the 10-horse field.

Ciaron Maher-trained filly Sacambaya is only new to the race track but the three-year-old has shown fantastic ability in its two race career so far. The Hard Spun product won by a nose on debut at Moe before going down by a length in its benchmark debut at Kyneton. Sacambaya should be fit and firing after a two week let up.

O’lonhro Bay took a while to shake the maiden tag, but since breaking through, the gelding has placed once and won a further time from four subsequent races. The last start win at Seymour was impressive and given the O’lonhro progeny tackles the same track on Thursday there is no reason to think it cannot repeat the dose.

Zupa Hero is a runner that is first up after a long break. As a $7 hope the gelding hammered an eight runner field at Pakenham, but failed two weeks later at Moonee Valley. The Zupaone product will be good-to-go after a six-month spell and we think it has the ability to return in winning style.

Race 6 – Mitchelton Wines BM58 (1411m)

An incredibly-even field of 10 confronts punters in the second leg of the quaddie, so we are spreading our net wide on this one.

Hayes and Daberning runner Ocean Grove drops down slightly in class after a fourth-placed finish in benchmark 64 quality. A little more luck across its early career and the three-year-old could have had at least three more wins to its name. Ocean Grove has the ability to take this one out.

After taking almost a month away from the track Duro Canyon finished second in a benchmark 58 race two-weeks ago. It will be the first attempt at both the track and the distance on Thursday but the extra trip could be exactly what the horse needs to break through.

The Squatter was a sensational maiden winner back in June of last year but has failed to replicate that form since. A trial win back in February gave punters hope that a win could be around the corner and the horse has previously placed third up. At its best it should be in the frame.

Starlight Sun is stepping straight into benchmark company after breaking its maiden by a head at the beginning of the month. The horse gets a 13kg relief from that win and has the class to step up and win in a benchmark debut.

Race 7 – M Seymour 90th Birthday BM58 (2015m)

A huge field of 18 will potentially run around on Thursday so we are again having cast a wide net.

Treasure Map brings in great form after a terrific win at Kilmore exactly one month prior to Thursday’s race. The break will benefit the six-year-old greatly and there is no reason to think the win at Kilmore is not able to be emulated.

Lee and Shannon Hope runner Sneferu has been in sparkling form over the last four races. If you remove a second last finish at Ballarat back in February the five-year-old has not finished outside the quinella placings.

Weir elect Pull The Ripcord has not missed a placing in three races and has four top-three finishes across its last five. The ultra-consistent runner won stylishly at Kyneton at the beginning of the month and resumes after a 20 day layoff. The gelding could be the one to beat.

Two Square’s win on March 10 was special. The mare was hard ridden and drifting back through the field in a maiden at Ararat, but the four-year-old found an extra gear to storm home late and score the win. If the mare can settle in the run better and insert itself into the race at the right time there is nothing holding it back.

Race 8 – Classicbet BM58 (1200m)

A 12 runner field rounds out the quaddie this week but there is three standouts here that we believe will battle out the finish across the sprint journey.

Jocasta is a classy operator who had no luck last time out at Cranbourne on the 10th of March. Prior to that the runner had four straight second placed finishes. The mare has never finished outside the top-two at the distance and will look to continue that form on Thursday.

Six-year-old gelding Finno has plenty of experience across the 1200m journey. The Danzero product has won four times and placed a further two times across the sprint trip and will take some beating if it gets the run to suit.

Hard Earned Thirst is a speedy starter that could pinch this one from the front if it jumps well from gate four. It has previously won at this distance before and will take some beating if it pings the gate.
