Quaddie tips for Thursday, June 29 races at Ballarat

quaddie tips
THIS week’s quaddie sticks to the rural Victorian motif, this time coming at you from the beautiful surrounds of Ballarat.

A rock-solid quaddie last week was thwarted in the opening leg after a double-figure winner pipped our elect right on the fence, and we had to sit stony faced as the rest of the legs walked in.

We are not ones to dwell on the past here however, so we move on quickly in search of a winning dividend.

Race five on the card at Ballarat is the City of Ballarat Handicap Class One, which kicks off the quaddie at 3pm.

Race 5 – City of Ballarat Handicap Class One (1200m)

Mr Sinatra is an ultra-consistent runner, but has failed to find the winning touch in its nine-start career to date. Four times in its career it has finished within a length of the winner, and has missed the placings just once. A second win seems just around the corner.

Vanitoso jumps straight into class one company after only breaking the maiden tag three-weeks-ago but the four-year-old is capable of backing up that stellar performance. The wide gate is a concern but if it can get across easily it will take some beating.

Meowie Wowie is looking to maintain a stellar run of form since coming out back in March of this year. The mare has never missed the first four across five runs and was desperately unlucky not to win in its class one debut back in April. This will be the horse’s first attempt at the 1200m distance but we have no doubt it will handle the drop in trip well.

Race 6 – Hygain BM70 (1200m)

Aurelius Hero has been on fire recently without winning. Two back-to-back second placings at Ballarat where the Octagonal progeny has finished within half a length of the winner displays the type of form the gelding is in and we would not be surprised to see it break through here. The five-year-old has previously won across this distance twice before.

Tumult is looking to make it three successive wins on Thursday. The six-year-old has won twice at double figure odds over the past month. We expect the horse to jump in the single digits on Thursday after being underestimated twice.

This will be the horse’s first attempt at Ballarat, but the Excited Angel progeny has recorded three wins and a further four placings across the 1200m trip.

Experienced galloper Believing has been in red-hot form over the last five races. The four-year-old has not missed the first four in that stretch which has included one win and three placings. The gelding has been incredibly unlucky not to win its last two races, and any luck from the number one gate will see it firmly in the mix on Thursday.

Race 7 – Sportsbet’s Racing Form BM64 (1600m)

An incredibly competitive race confronts punters in the third leg of the quaddie so we are forced to cast our net a little wider.

Seul Spirit is looking to overturn a poor run of form at Ballarat which has seen the gelding fail to place in four attempts at the track. The seven-year-old has been good nick recently, placing in four of its last five races. A win looks like it could be just around the corner, and the horse returns to a distance it has won at three times previously.

Weir runner Silver Stratum has placed in its last three races and returns to a distance where it has two wins and three placings from nine attempts. The Stratum progeny has also never missed a placing at Ballarat and will be primed for a big outing on Thursday.

River Goddess is a filly that has found its top gear. Across its last two starts the three-year-old has finished first and second across this distance and will be looking to replicate that form again. It jumps from a decent barrier and gets a big weight relief so we are anticipating a solid race from the Ellerton and Zahra runner.

Hammerstein jumps from an ordinary gate on Thursday, but any luck from the wide alley will see it right in the frame here. Aside from its last start horror show at Sandown, the Brett Scott-trained gelding had won and finished second in very strong company. We expect the five-year-old to go forward from gate 13 and if it can get a soft lead will take some running down.

Race 8 – Crownbet BM64 (1300m)

Old boy Jurrah Twist has a few issues to overcome on Thursday, but if the topweight can get a good start from the wide gate, history is on its side. The seven-year-old has won four times and placed a further three times at the distance and has missed the placings just one across track and distance at Ballarat. If the gelding is anywhere near its peak it takes this race out easily.

Our Turn is aptly named given it seldom wins out of turn, but the mare has been in quality racing form leading into Thursday. The last start failure at Pakenham was forgivable given it was chasing a hattrick of wins and we are expecting the five-year-old to return to the top tier form which saw it hammering fields.

Skilled Hunter resumes on Thursday after a seven month absence from the track. The Weir-trained three-year-old trailed well recently and the master-trainer has a knack for getting these runners in peak condition first up.
