Quaddie tips for Thursday, June 1 races at Sale

quaddie tips
WE are headed to rural Victoria for our regular Thursday quaddie as Sale hosts an interesting nine race card on the first day of the month.

Last week’s quaddie was a heartbreaker for us after landing the first two legs – including a $32 shot in the second – one of our selections was run down late to snuff out any hope of a dividend.

This week we are happy to take the change of venue and we are hoping it brings about a change of luck after several narrow defeats.

Race five on the card at Sale is the Wilson Medic benchmark 64, which kicks off the quaddie at 3pm.

Race 6 – Wilson Medic BM64 (1200m)

Kapscero is one of the few runners brings great form into this race. It has not missed the placings in its last three starts and will get the run of the race from barrier five.

Certified Twenty has previously won and placed across the 1200m distance and will be right on the speed from the beginning. The wide barrier is bit of a concern but if it can burn across it will take some running down.

Fan the Breeze has the early speed to burn to the front of the big field on Thursday, which should hold it in good stead at a distance the gelding has relished in the past. A win at Sale would ensure the six-year-old maintains a great record which has seen it win or place in over half its races at 1200m.

Race 7 – Max Blakiston BM64 (1100m)

Another big field of runners confronts punters in the second leg of the Sale quaddie, but there are three standouts going into this one.

She’s A Pluck is a brilliant sprinter in the making and looks to have a clear class advantage over a lot of these runners. Last time out the three-year-old filly smashed the field at Moe, and anything close to that run will see it torch its rivals at Sale.

Patient was a mare in red-hot form prior to an eighth-placed finish at Cranbourne three weeks ago, but the result belied the performance given it was less than five lengths of the winner. Prior to that the four-year-old had not finished outside the top-two in its last two starts.

Mature mare Waltz In is a runner that can surprise on Thursday. Providing the race pans in the way the speed map predicts the nine-year-old will get a good cart into the race and it has a quality turn of foot that could see it hit the front when it matters most.

Race 8 – Cantwell/Coster HT 2 BM64 (1400m)

Rock Of Mahal is a gelding on the rise. The horse returns after a six month absence, and it has previously won and placed first up. The four-year-old has placed previously at two attempts over the 1400m trip and should be right in the mix.

Golden Fusaichi is seeking a hattrick of wins after recording two eye-catching victories over the month of May. This will be the horse’s first attempt at 1400m but it was proven to be a progressive type thus far so there is no reason to doubt the step up in journey is within its capability.

Call To Justice won its maiden at this distance three weeks ago at Werribee and we are expecting a strong step up. It was a tough maiden that it came through so we are certain the four-year-old will not be worried by the benchmark debut.

Race 9 – Lee/Wilson MD Series HT 3 BM70 (1600m)

Nangawooka is the clear standout in this race.

The four-year-old had no problems stepping up to benchmark company at the beginning of the month, taking out a BM58 race, and subsequently placed at sale in a BM64. The horse has placed in over half of every race it has competed in and looks to be the best horse in the race.

The next best selection is Dance For Me. The Mick Price-trained mare has missed the placings just once in its career – but that failure came at this distance. Despite the 1600m failure the four-year-old should be strong in the market and will be among the finish unless something goes seriously wrong.

Forthefunofit is looking to maintain a strong run across its last two starts. The gelding has finished inside the placings in its last two races, and has a great record at 1600m considering its won twice from three attempts. That form puts Forthefunofit firmly in the mix and we would not be surprised to see it take this one out at odds.
