Quaddie tips for Thursday, January 12 races at Geelong

quaddie tips
THE first Thursday racing meet for the New Year down in Geelong is our selected venue this week and punters have a tricky eight race card to negotiate.

Thankfully, the team at Horsebetting.com.au have been selecting winners at will for our readers, and we are only just getting started. This week’s quaddie numbers at Geelong look magnificent and we are supremely confident we will get a return for our followers heading into the weekend.

Race five on the card at Geelong is the Prestige Jayco TOV Sprint benchmark 70 and kicks off the quaddie at 3.30pm.

Race 5 – Prestige Jayco TOV Sprint BM70 (1100m)

The fifth race at Geelong kicks off the quaddie and a trio of in-form runners have drawn our attention.

The dominant duo of Weir and Yendall team up to take Keep Not A Day, who has finished second and first across its last two races. The gelding drops back to 1100m today after experiencing success at 1200m and should be in the mix on Thursday.

Lightly raced gelding The Card Players won in sensational fashion in a class 1 race on Boxing Day. The four-year-old settled miles off the pace but rocketed home late to claim the win in the shadows of the post.

Nitro Nick is the third elect for us in the first leg. The four-year-old has won over class and distance before and looked great back on December 14 in finishing third at double figure odds. The horse gets a month-long break and should be fit and firing for this one.

Race 6 – Emsley Lodge BM64 (2400m)

A mammoth race of 17 horses confronts punters in the second leg of our quaddie but we have still managed to find several standout runners.

Cuban Perfection has shown over its last two races that stepping up in distance is no problem. Two starts back the five-year-old finished second over the 2000m, then came third at the start of 2017 after negotiating the additional 200m. The horse steps up again on Thursday the last two runs suggest that the horse is searching for the extra distance.

Five-year-old gelding Skyfire has been in tremendous form since resuming in early November. The gelding has not finished outside the first four across its last five races, and has won twice and placed one in that timeframe. Against weaker opposition the Amy Johnson trained runner should be able to keep the good form rolling.

Andrew Payne trained Sadia has had some bad luck in its recent runs but prior to that had recorded promising runs over a similar distance. The four-year-old has to overcome a tricky barrier draw but if it can find a prominent position it should be in the finish.

Race 7 – Charles Rose BM70 (1500m)

Arguably the highest quality race of the day is the third leg of our quaddie, but there are three clear-cut elects to our eye.

Bel Burgess has the best record of any horse in the race. The four-year-old has only finished outside the first four once in its entire career and has placings at multiple distances. The Bel Esprit product was admirable in its benchmark 64 debut last time out, finishing second. The gelding has the ability to win this one.

Reward The Dream has to lug around top weight on Thursday in the seventh race on the card but the Robbie Griffiths runner was able to salute last week carrying an additional kilogram. Steps up from benchmark 64 level to 70 and a further 100m but we have no doubts it has the potential to go back-to-back for the first time in its career.

The powerful Weir and Yendall connection again seek a win in Geelong as Duke Of Boneo looks to make it two wins from two attempts at Geelong. The New Zealand bred four-year-old has raced in much higher quality than this race and will be prominent as the post draws near.

Race 8 – Richie Bros Auctioneers BM64 (1300m)

Last leg of the quaddie sees another monstrous field of 17 taking to the Geelong turf.

Gai Waterhouse trained New Elegance has had high expectations on it since the stable took the four-year-old on, but after two uninspiring barrier trials anticipation somewhat tapered. Fortunately for connections the gelding took just two races to break the maiden tag.

The horse is racing for the first time since August but if there is one thing Gai knows how to do it is get a horse to run well first up.

Meadow Sprite is shooting for three wins from four races after a benchmark 58 success back prior to Christmas. The four-year-old mare has won at both longer and shorter distances than the race it will confront on Thursday.

Bel Blaster is a runner stepping straight out of maiden grade to a benchmark 64 but the form line could not be more impressive. The three-year-old torched the field after getting away slowly at Mornington just after Christmas and has not raced since. Will be fresh and raring to go.
