Quaddie tips for Thursday, February 23 races at Kilmore

quaddie tips
KILMORE hosts an interesting eight-race card on Thursday afternoon which should offer racing enthusiasts plenty to get excited about.

There are a number of familiar faces for Victorian racing fans, and there are a number of runners capable of winning here and going on to bigger and better things.

Race five on the card at Kilmore is the Mitchelton State Shiraz class one over 1450m, which kicks off the quaddie at 2.30 pm.

Race 5 – Mitchelton State Shiraz C1 (1450m)

An even field of 10 kicks off the quaddie, and a trio of familiar faces should again be in the mix.

Myki has shown glimpses of potential since crossing over the Tasman and is third up this preparation for Brett Scott. We believe the time is now. The Kiwi imports more often than not take time to find their feet, and after an encouraging fourth last week in class one company, Myki looks like it is ready to fire in Australia.

Lost Command has had back-to-back second placed finishes in benchmark 64 company. Both times the mare was edged out by a head. If the five-year-old had more luck in the straight last time out it would have more than likely edged out the winner. Another strong showing is expected.

Le Boss is an interesting runner which has taken on much better company than this at metropolitan tracks around Melbourne. The four-year-old has two second placed finishes from three attempts in class one fields. Le Boss has the ability to be in the finish here.

Race 6 – Grand Handicap 2000m 18/3-BM64 (1900m)

A trio of last start winners look to be the standouts in the second leg of the Kilmore quaddie on Thursday afternoon.

Momentary won well at Moe two weeks ago in comfortable fashion and looks well placed to replicate that form here. This will be just the horse’s second attempt over 1609m but the seven-year-old is in peak condition and should prove hard to beat.

Andrew Nobelt runner Napoleon’s War is a last start winner over track, distance and class on February 9. The four-year-old gets a two week break from that run and should be fit, fresh and firing on Thursday.

Resuming after a 58 day layoff, Star Zone is looking to continue a quality first up record which has seen it place twice from two runs. The last start win in Orange was a walk in the park and anything close to that will see Star Zone walk this one in.

Race 7 – Thank You Gary Buckley BM58 (1600m)

Neona has been racing in great form over the next five races. The eight-year-old has finished in the first four across those races which included three placings. The horse has quality runs at the track and across the distance and is sure to be in the frame.

Alan Hanrahan-trained Queue For Quality is looking to go one better after a pair of second placed finishes across its last two runs on Thursday. Last time out it lost in a photo finish in agonising fashion after storming home from midfield. A better run in transit should assist the ten-year-old.

Brilliant Jet is looking to continue a rich vein of form which has seen it win once and finish second twice across its last three runs. The last start second was gritty given it got checked at the start and displayed a class that will hold it in good stead as it progresses through the grades.

Race 8 – Kilmore Pacing Cup 18/3 BM58 (2100m)

The last race of the day sees a field of 18 confronting punters, but to our eye there is four clear runners that have the ability to salute for us in the eighth.

Our Delinquent was featured in one of our earlier quaddies but failed to fire, but the slightest bit of luck here should see the promising type in the finish.

Despite over racing after a poor jump and getting held up in the straight, the four-year-old still finished in the top half of the field at Moe, underlining its class. We are expecting a stronger showing from Our Delinquent across a distance where it has placed before.

Luke Oliver-trained Bernie Boy is looking to go back-to-back after a photo-finish victory at Moe two weeks ago. The four-year-old raced wide for much of the journey in a huge field and found something extra in the final 200m when it had every reason to wilt. Another quality showing is expected.

Darcionic put together a promising run at the start of the month at Moe. The four-year-old jumped awkwardly but still managed to find its way into the placings carrying 68kg. The gelding gets a 10kg relief on that run and gets back to a distance where it has placed before across a solitary run.

Ready Street showed a lot of improvement in its last run at Yarra Valley. The horse only has one win in its 21 race career, but the five-year-old has the ability to put together a strong performance that is capable of upsetting the more fancied rivals.
