Quaddie tips for Thursday, February 2 races at Pakenham

quaddie tips
RACING returns to the outer suburbs of Melbourne this Thursday night when Pakenham plays host to our quaddie of the week.

There’s plenty of familiar faces running in the eight races, and after poring over the form, speaking to the trainers and studying the film we’re confident there’s a juicy quaddie return for our HorseBetting.com.au readers on Thursday night.

Race five on the card at Pakenham is the Star News Group bench mark 70 over the 1200m trip, which kicks off the quaddie at 8pm.

Race 5 – Star News Group BM70 (1200m)

The first leg of the Thursday quaddie has one of our favourite runners and a star on the rise that we think will be battling it out together.

Count The Interest is hunting a third straight win on Thursday. The seven-year-old has won at the distance before and over the last two races the gelding has saluted at 1100m and 1300m. The horse looks primed for a big showing.

HorseBetting.com.au readers know our love runs deep for Essence Of Terror. We are forgiving the last run after the mare jumped awkwardly when finishing sixth of eight runners.

Before that, the Simon Zahra-trained four-year-old had three wins and one second across four runs, so we’re anticipating a bounce back race.

Race 6 – Trackside Cinema BM70 (1600m)

The first double figure runner race of our quaddie takes place on the second leg, and we think there are three standouts.

Backroads is hunting three straight wins on Thursday. The four-year-old saluted back-to-back wins at massive prices and we are hoping the bookies underestimate the gelding again so we can get a mammoth price.

Downhearted has been racing in great form without breaking through for a win. Across the last six races the four-year-old has finished second in all but one run. It has terrific form at the track after winning twice and placing once across four runs. The Mick Price trained gelding should be in the finish.

The Darren Weir-trained Praecereus is looking to go back-to-back for the first time in its 13 race career. Two weeks ago in Benalla the gelding did it the hard way from the front and still managed to hold on after setting the pace. The rest and freshen up should do the four-year-old the world of good and it should feature at the post.

Race 7 – XXXX Gold Class 1 (1400m)

The feature race of the day is the XXXX Gold Class 1 and we believe there are three clear elects in the field of 11.

Henry George was an impressive debut winner two weeks ago at Moe. The Cindy Alderson trained four-year-old hammered the weak field, but did what it had to. The trainer is confident the gelding has the ability to progress through the grades so it would be remiss of us to leave it out.

Ragazzo Del Corsa is already a 24 race veteran, even at four years of age. Two weeks ago the gelding finished three lengths behind superstar in the making Dusty Jack in a race it would have easily won had DJ not taken part. Ragazzo Del Corsa gets its chance to win its second career race.

Mick Price trained El Dorado Mine is resuming after a five month break.

Across its last two runs in August the four-year-old was incredibly unlucky not to win, going down by just over a length at Geelong before being undone in a photo finish at Pakenham just two weeks later. The horse has won once across two first up starts and should be ready to go.

Race 8 – Sportsbet Racing Form BM64 (1400m)

A field of 11 confronts punters in the final leg of our Pakenham quaddie.

Elegant Queen has shown an ability to roll with the punches throughout its 26 race career. The four-year-old mare has placed in almost half of its career starts and last time out it finished third at Pakenham despite being an $11 outsider and travelling three wide for much of the trip.

Lightly raced mare Lost Command looked to have recaptured its spectacular maiden form after a string of ordinary performances. The five-year-old was just nosed out two weeks ago at Kilmore over a shorter distance but in the same grade. A step up in journey on Thursday could prove the key.

The bottom weight of the field Nina Rules steps out of a class 1 at Moe from two weeks ago into the final race at Pakenham. The four-year-old mare absolutely scorched the field to record a 3.8 length win and there is no reason to believe it cannot back that up on Thursday.
