Quaddie tips for Thursday, December 1 races at Warrnambool

quaddie of the week

THE Thursday races return to Warrnambool this week and a sensational card of racing awaits punters for the first day of summer.

Several tricky maidens kick off the card, so we took a look at the quaddie which begins at race five.

There are a number of horses that have true city grade potential running around in the four races here, but we have put together a quaddie that we believe will not only salute, but generate our readers a nice return to boot.

The first race of the quaddie is the Hyland Sportswear benchmark 64, which kicks off at 3.30pm.

All odds were provided by Crownbet.com.au, who is the home of vision for all the Victorian race meets.

Race 5 – Hyland Sportswear BM64 (1000m)

A sprint over the 1000m kicks off the quaddie on Thursday and we are favouring a pair of in-form horses for the first.

Aaron Purcell-trained Kilowatt finished second of nine runners two weeks ago, finishing behind favourite Lasayette. The four-year-old had the blinkers on for the first time and should benefit from the experience.

The other runner we like is Queen Of Tides, which is a last-start winner back on November 12. It’s second up on Thursday and should be better for the run.

We are also throwing in Chelembra, which is resuming after a seven-month spell. The nine-year-old has won over course and distance so it would be remiss of us to leave the gelding out of the numbers.

Race 6 – Star Of The West BM64 (1200m)

The second leg of the quaddie sees us taking a pair of Weir runners in the Star of the West.

Keep Not A Day tried to sit outside the speed in a higher graded race last time out and faded badly, but prior to that finished third of eight in a Benchmark 70 race. Drops back to BM64 here and could be a contender.

Equietto is racing superbly this preparation without chalking up the win.

Last time out the four-year-old made up a stack of ground to just finish outside the money at Kilmore. Prior to that the gelding finished third at Ararat in a C1 race. Equietto has Dean Yendall aboard and it would not be surprising to see the Weir runner past the post first.

We have also liked the look of Dutch Courage over the last year. The five-year-old mare has three placings, including one win from her last five starts. It resumes Thursday after a two month layoff and will be fresh from an impressive trial win at Cranbourne.

Race 7 – Port Fairy IGA Cup (1400m)

A big field greets punters in the third leg of the quaddie and as such we have added a few more runners in to provide some peace of mind in a tricky affair.

Weir runner Profit Share’s form is hard to look past.

The five-year-old has been around the mark in each of its last four starts against quality opposition. Profit Share can sometimes over-race so finding a good position and settling early from gate 11 will be imperative.

Hasta La Thomas is second up on Thursday after an impressive resuming win at Mt Gambier after coming in last on the turn the six-year-old powered home to get the win. Has a second up record of one win and one second from three starts so cannot be discounted.

Floral Fever brings in wonderful form after blitzing the field at Donald as the short priced favourite. The horse did not have much luck the two starts prior but saluted in Geelong back in early October.

Bottom weighted Judges looks to be a big factor here. Coming off back-to-back second placed finishes, the five-year-old has shown an ability to box on under pressure and will relish the weight relief it has on some of the more fancied rivals.

We are putting in Hijack Hussy to round out the third leg. Has been luckless over the last two starts but has won third up before. Weir and Yendall are teaming up again and it would be foolish to write off that pairing.

Race 8 – Folk Festivals Volunteers Class 1 (1300m)

A field of 12 round out the quaddie at Warrnambool this Thursday.

Danigree is having just its third race start in what has been a promising start to the career. The four-year-old faded after leading the field on debut before gaping its rivals a fortnight ago in Dunkeld.

Alma’s Rossa is another third up runner on Thursday who is fresh of a maiden victory. The filly won stylishly as a $13 chance at the same track as she will be competing on here and should be in the finish.

Darren Weir runner Prior Engagement is resuming after a two month spell, but prior to that had finished outside the first four just twice in its career.

Prior Engagement was slightly disappointing as a short priced favourite back in September but Weir is the master of knowing when his horses need a break and he is adept at bringing them back at the optimal time.
