Quaddie form, odds and racing tips for Rosehill, July 16, 2016

BETTING on quaddies is great fun and it can all be done for a small stake. We’re featuring the Rosehill quaddie this Saturday which kicks off with the $160,000 Winter Stakes.

The 1400m race features only two last-start winners, but there are six runners at single figures in the market which should make for an interesting opening leg of the quaddie.

It’s winter racing at Rosehill, but the forecast is for dry weather throughout the week and the track should be playing in perfect order.

Leg 1 – Winter Stakes (1400m)

Ninth Legion has won its last two and it should be included on that alone. The Peter Robl-trained gelding will be hoping for a good track and although it didn’t show much form early in its campaign, it is firing on all cylinders now. Carries a big weight of 60kg, but it should run well at $4.60.

Oxford Poet is a talented gelding which has won twice on this track and it didn’t have much luck against a similar field last start. Kim Waugh trains and the five-year-old handles all track conditions which will suit nicely. It looks an obvious quaddie inclusion at $5.50.

Include both Tales Of Grimm and Better Not Blue which aren’t the most consistent horses, but they could show up at any time and can’t be left out.

Leg 1 tips: 1, 3, 5, 9

Leg 2 – Tabcorp R93 Handicap (1200m)

El Sasso won either side of a short spell and although it hasn’t won in five second-up starts, it looks ready to win again. The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained gelding gets the handy inside draw to its advantage and it will likely settle in the box seat. It will need some luck around the turn, but jockey Tye Angland is riding in good form and punters think it’s a great chance at $2.60.

Painte is a solid each way chance after running fifth at Randwick last start. The Joe Pride-trained gelding has won only three from 17, but it has placed on 10 occasions and that consistency draws punters. It likes running at Rosehill and it seemingly handles all track conditions. The support is there at $4.50 so it goes into the mix.

Leg 2 tips: 3, 8

Leg 3 – Pluck @ Vinery R85 Handicap (1350m)

The Chris Waller-trained Elle Lou was a devastating winner two back at Randwick and it just didn’t handle the very heavy track last start. The four-year-old will be hoping for a soft track where it has won four from six starts and it should get conditions to suit. Expect it to settle near the tail of the field before jockey Glyn Schofield produces it around the home turn. $4.60 chance with bookmakers.

Thud may well be the most unlucky horse running around at the moment after two luckless runs this campaign. It finished fourth at Rosehill two back which is when Blake Shinn copped a one-month suspension and it ran into trouble again last start when second on this track. Drawing the inside barrier might not be the best place for it, but it’s due a turn of luck and $3 suggests punters are going to ride their money again.

Include Distraught ($7) and also Extensible ($9.50) which was a last start winner at Warwick Farm. This is much tougher, but it looks to have ability further down the track.

Leg 3 tips: 1, 7, 8, 11

Leg 4 – McGrath Estate Agents R77 Handicap (1200m)

Joe Pride lines up Butterboom which scored nicely two back at Rosehill and it had no peace in front when third last start. It has a professional record of four wins and five placings from 14 starts and it can run on any track surface. It’s slightly underrated, but punters have backed it in from $5 to $3.60.

Appoint Percy has won three from nine which included a three-length win in the Highway Handicap at Randwick. It went well against a tough field last start and with good fresh up form, the $10 on offer looks like great quaddie value.

In an open field, include Nite Rocker ($8.50) and Typhoon Jolie ($7) as savers.

Leg 4 tips: 1, 3, 5, 9
