Qld under consideration for Turnitaround

Various races are on the table for Turnitaround after the Warrnambool-trained galloper completed a winning hat-trick at Flemington.

After victory in the Might And Power Handicap on Saturday, trainer Matthew Williams is faced with the choice of heading to Queensland for some winter warmth or staying in Melbourne for some easier pickings at Moonee Valley.

Ridden by apprentice Ben Thompson, Turnitaround was one of three $4.40 equal favourites to fill the placings when he defeated Second Bullet by a long head with Killarney Kid three lengths away third.

Williams said if the decision was made to head to Queensland it would be towards the end of the winter carnival.

“There’s the Caloundra Cup and the Ipswich Cup and (Darren) Weir owes me a favour,” Williams said.

“He’s got a stable up there so I could probably send him up, but there’s Moonee Valley in a fortnight and again a fortnight after.

“They’re 90 grand races so whether we do that and then give him a little break and look to some country cups, it’s something to think about.”

Williams said Turnitaround had been a slow-maturing horse which had come into his own this preparation.
