Qiji Phoenix heading to Waller stable

New Zealand stakes winner Qiji Phoenix will join the Chris Waller stable to be prepared for the Caulfield Guineas.

The two-year-old was unbeaten in three starts as a two-year-old in New Zealand for Donna Logan and Chris Gibbs but was unplaced on an unsuitable track in the Group Two BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes at Eagle Farm.

Aquis Farm and Hongwei Chen and Alex Teng of Horse Feng Bloodstock have bought into the colt raced by Chinese businessman Fudong Niu.

“I am delighted that Aquis Farm and Horse Feng Bloodstock will be joining me in racing Qiji Phoenix,” Fudong Niu told NZ Racing Desk.

“He will join Chris Waller’s stable with a view to enhancing his stallion credentials.

“I can’t thank Donna Logan and Chris Gibbs enough for their efforts and it was based on Donna’s recommendation that we sought out Chris Waller.”

Qiji Phoenix has been spelling in Queensland and will join the Waller stable next week.

“He has had a good spell at Aquis Farm in the warmer weather in Queensland after the Sires’ Produce and will be heading to Sydney next week,” Alex Teng said.

“We will be guided by Chris, but a race like the Caulfield Guineas looks a likely spring target.”
