Pyx Chamber breaks through in Sandown win

An early winner at Randwick for the Godolphin team has been followed up by a victory in the opening race at Sandown to Pyx Chamber.

Pyx Chamber broke through for his first win in his sixth start in Saturday’s Ladbrokes Australia Handicap (1300m).

The win came 15 minutes after stablemate and another son of Street Cry, Handfast, won the Listed South Pacific Classic for trainer John O’Shea in Sydney.

Pyx Chamber had support from $4.40 to $4 and after travelling midfield in the small field under James Winks, the colt cruised up to his rivals before going on to defeat October Tutu ($5.50) by 1-1/4 lengths.

“John has really liked this horse from day one,” Godolphin’s Melbourne stable representative David Charles said.

“The plan was to ride him behind the speed today and see if he could quicken, and he showed what he could do.

“He’s a staying type so I’m sure John (O’Shea) and Henry (Plumptre) will put a plan together for him and we’ll see where we go from here.

“But it was an impressive effort today.”
