Punting tips for the Inglis 3YO Guineas, Scone Carnival Day 2

Scone Carnival
DAY two of the Scone carnival continues on Saturday with five major betting races on the card.

The Inglis 3YO Guineas is the richest race at $430,000. It features two very promising three-year-olds in Spill The Beans and Supply And Demand.

Also on the card is the Listed 2YO Woodlands Stakes, Denise’s Joy Stakes, Luskin Star Stakes and the Dark Jewel Classic, which have all attracted big and competitive fields.

Punters absolutely love betting at Scone and there’s one horse in particular which will be heavily punted on track. The home town hero Clearly Innocent will be looking to stay unbeaten from five starts on its home track and we’re expecting a big roar if it gets up.

If you’re having a punt, sign up with Sportsbet.com.au and have a go at its Super 6. Pick the winner of the six feature races and be in to win the major jackpot.

Race 1 – Kia Ora Stud R78 Handicap (2200m)

Duca Valentinois was well backed to win last start, but was unable to hold off the fast-finishing Hipparchus. It rises up to 60kg, but drops back in grade and it should find this much more to its liking. It can handle all track conditions and bookmakers expect it to run well at $2.70.

On the second line of betting is Loving Home which has won only three races, but has been around the mark of late. The Chris Waller-trained gelding fought on well behind Hipparchus and Duca Valentinois last start, but it’s another which has been punished in the weights. Chance, but we don’t like its winning strike rate for the price of $4.20.

Murphy’s Delight has been well backed to win at $4.60. The Chris Waller-trained gelding won well in this grade last start, but it isn’t suited by the weights either. The inside draw helps, but the two horses dropping back in grade are better suited.

Race 1 tip: Duca Valentinois to win ($2.70) at Crownbet.com.au

Race 2 – Isuzu Ute Scone R77 Handicap (1100m)

John O’Shea lines up Mogador which promised plenty earlier on in its career after winning at Warwick Farm, but it has cost punters since. To its credit, it finished second behind Keen Array in the Blue Sapphire Stakes and fifth in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes. It ran on well last start so from barrier 15 expect it to drop back and flash home late. The $3.50 price should drift a touch.

Brooklyn Storm has come for support at $4 which looks on the shorter side of value. The in-form trainer Bjorn Baker lines up the gelding which has won three from 10 with five placings, so the consistency is there, but we argue whether it has the class to win at this level. Bookmakers and punters seem to think so, but it’s a watch-horse for us at this stage.

Barood only battled behind River Wild last time out, but its form prior included a placing behind the much-improved Sir Bacchus which should be a good form guide. The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained colt has been respected in the market at $3.50 which suggests a good run is expected.

Race 2 tip: Mogador to win ($3.50) at Crownbet.com.au

Race 3 – Woodlands 2YO Stakes (1100m)

Aghna is a promising filly for trainer Gabrielle Englebrecht which ran well on debut behind Golden Slipper winner Capitalist. The Foxwedge filly failed to impress last start in the Widden Stakes at Rosehill, but that effort should be forgiven and it has trialled well leading into this. Awkward draw, but it has some support at long odds of $19.

Manaya is the hype horse of the field after blitzing its rivals in two trials. The Michael Costa-trained filly has shown plenty of zip and bookmakers aren’t risking it on debut. The daughter of Hinchinbrook has a tricky barrier of 11, but the light weight of 55kg helps and we expect its price to firm.

Nonpareil didn’t have much luck in the Widden Stakes on debut and it should be a much fitter filly now. The John O’Shea-trained daughter of Commands was running on well before hitting traffic and its recent trial form is encouraging. The concern is that its opening price of $4.40 has drifted to $4.80, but consider for the win.

Race 3 tip: Manaya to win ($4) at Bet365.com.au

Race 4 – Coolmore Denise’s Joy Stakes (1100m)

Alucinari is another Godolphin runner with good form and it brings good trial form into this. The Street Cry filly has had 10 starts for two wins and five placings, which included an eye-catching run for second at Canterbury two starts back. James McDonald rides at a nice weight of 54kg which brings it right into contention at $4.60.

Sangiovese scored two narrow wins to kick off its career, but its last start effort was a career best. The Bjorn Baker-trained filly ran second behind the talented Supply And Demand which is contesting a tough race later in the day. Looks ready to strike after dropping down to 54kg. Bookmakers’ favourite at $2.70 after opening at $2.80.

Way Too Good has placed behind two nice types recently and it has the ability to set the pace from in front. It has drawn very wide in barrier 15 which makes it harder to cross the field, but it could offer value at $8.50 and $2.60 for the place.

Race 4 tip: Sangiovese to win ($2.70) at Crownbet.com.au

Race 5 – Inglis 3YO Guineas (1400m)

Supply And Demand is a quality youngster which scored an easy win over Sangiovese last start. That form might get franked in the race prior and trainer Gai Waterhouse has a big opinion of the gelding. It opened up at $3.20, drifted to $3.50, but has come back in for support at $3.30.

Punters have backed last start winner Spill The Beans into $2.10 after opening at $2.40. The Gerald Ryan-trained colt cruised past the field to win the Hawkesbury Guineas last time out and its form prior came against some tough horses. It won the Eskimo Prince Stakes fresh up over Le Romain which subsequently raced well and a fourth behind Press Statement is good form also. Looks the one to beat.

Serene Majesty has placed at its last two, but faces two very handy horses here. The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained runner will have a slight weight advantage which will help, but it looks the best of the rest at $1.50 for the place.

Race 5 tip: Spill The Beans to win ($2.10) at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 6 – Yarraman Park Luskin Star Stakes (1300m)

Clearly Innocent will have most of the Scone crowd cheering as the local looks to remain unbeaten at Scone. The Greg Bennett-trained gelding has won all four starts at Scone and the Country Championships winner looks a nice chance in this. Drops to 54kg and it has a devastating sprint which makes it a chance at $3.80.

Bjorn Baker continues his good team with Music Magnate which is shooting for four consecutive wins. It won in a blanket finish in the Hall Mark Stakes last start and it hasn’t missed a placing second up. It has drawn well in barrier two and we’re expecting a big effort. $3.40 into $3.20 with bookmakers.

Federal has attracted plenty of support following a fourth in the Hall Mark Stakes. It flashed home to narrowly miss last start and its form prior included a win at Rosehill and a placing in the Hawkesbury Guineas last year behind Najoom. Stable is confident and the $2.60 confirms that.

Race 6 tip: Music Magnate to win ($3.20) at WilliamHill.com.au

Race 7 – Godolphin Dark Jewel Classic (1400m)

Kim Waugh lines up Hetty Heights which came through the Provincial Championships series. The four-year-old managed sixth in the final after getting too far back and it has since shown its best form with a win at Rosehill. Nice horse on the rise and the big drop in weight will give it a chance against some quality opposition. $8.50 is a good each way price.

Artistry will have to cope with a wide barrier draw, but it hasn’t had everything go its way this season and it looms as a major chance. The daughter of Shamardal has won all six of its races on the dry surface which will be needed to show its best and the $6.50 looks like a fair price. Just needs some luck in the early stages of the run.

Danish Twist has drawn even wider in barrier 16 which is unfortunate given its recent form. The Kris Lees-trained mare has won three at this distance with four placings and it can win from in front or chasing. It will likely have to chase from the draw, but the weight will help it sprint home. $6 on offer.

Race 7 tip: Hetty Heights to win ($8.50) at Bet365.com.au

Race 8 – Arrowfield Ortensia Stakes (1100m)

Kuro continues to burn punters and they will have to take a short price again. The Joe Pride-trained gelding hasn’t won in what feels like forever, but it does drop right down in weight and it showed good signs with a third placing last start. Chance, but the $4 is a price many punters will shy away from.

Furnaces was a strong winner for John O’Shea last start and it looks a runner which could go to the next level this preparation. The three-year-old has won three at this distance and it can handle any track conditions. 54kg is dangerous with James McDonald in the saddle, but it has drifted from $3.50 to $3.80 so keep an eye on the betting.

Kaepernick returns after a poor last start performance at Flemington last October and it has come for support with punters. The Hawkes-trained gelding goes well fresh up and after opening up at $8 it has dropped down to $6.50. We expect the price to even out to around the $7.50 mark.

Race 8 tip: Furnaces to win ($3.80) at Crownbet.com.au
