Punt Drunk : Two Late Scratchings Heading Into Magic Millions Day

Punt Drunk Daily News – 16th January 2021

Saturday is here punters!! More importantly, Magic Millions Day is here! There’s $9.5million to be won on the Gold Coast today, and aren’t we bloody excited to sink our teeth into the best card of the year to date. What makes it better is we have been given a leave pass by the leader of the opposition (the wife) so we’ll be at the pub from 11am for the first ball of the Test match and in plenty of time before racing gets underway in this great country of ours.

We’ll keep this short and sweet today because let’s be honest it’s Saturday and we just want the racing to begin! The first at Murray Bridge isn’t too far away!

Living up to their name, but they’re scratched.

Fake Love

It’s ironic that the two horses scratched after acceptances and in the 24 hours prior to the running of the Magic Millions 2YO Classic are Fake Love and Readily Availabull. Now, it’s heartbreaking for connections that their rising stars can not compete in one of the richest races for 2YO’s in their juvenile season, however as punters it’s safe to say we can relate. We have all been lead on by the the great game we call punting and often refer to it as a Fake Love, she leads us on, thinks we are going to have a big day on the punt landing four quaddies, but then all of a sudden the second leg comes along and all four are gone prior to 4:30pm. It’s safe to say that our emotions are not Readily Availabull post 4:30pm, and all we want to do is find the closest beer, down it and plan where we can pick up some two minute noodles on the way home.

What does it mean for the race?

Well first of all there’s a new genuine contender, with the Chris Waller trained Ranch Hand gaining a start and coming up at $11 odds for the 2YO Classic. The Gary Moore trained Ruby Kisses gains a start as well, but is a rank outsider in the capacity field with odds of $51 available. From barrier three you would expect Ranch Hand to be quite handy throughout the running and what an 11th hour story it would be for the superstar trainer! He won his maiden at Warwick Farm on December 23 before failing as an odds-on favourite at Eagle Farm a fortnight ago.

We’re all ready for Magic Millions Day, best of luck to all the connections involved in the day, who knows maybe one day Punt Drunk could have a runner!
