Punt Drunk : Streets Of Avalon Becomes 2x Group 1 Winner!

Punt Drunk Daily News – Feburary 07, 201

Boy oh boy wowee, what a day of racing we witnessed yesterday! Profiteer was amazing in the Inglis 2YO, Probabeel showed her class at Caulfield, Streets Of Avalon became a two time Group 1 winner whilst handing Zac Spain his first Group 1. Favourites like Ole Kirk, North Pacific, Ingear were rolled and Sir Dragonet was so bad it wasn’t funny! It had it all, we are still trying to wrap our heads around it all to be honest, but all in all we’re glad we found a winner or two along the way!

Can Profiteer beat Enthaar in the Slipper?

Wins do not come any more impressive than the one Profiteer put in at start number two at Randwick yesterday. As our #PuntDrunk family know we are big Enthaar fans, and despite Profiteer seemingly bypassing the Blue Diamond in a fortnight it leaves us bursting with excitement if the two are to match up in the Golden Slipper towards the end of the Autumn. The official winning margin was by over five lengths and boy didn’t the hype prove justified! Mick Price did say post-race it is unlikely his Colt would head to the Blue Diamond, but it might just be what the race needs. Neither of the winners from yesterday’s Prelude’s are nominated for the Blue Diamond Stakes, so Enthaar could just show up and run away with the prize. Thankfully we got on at $3.80 before his last start win!

All credit to Streets Of Avalon….but what about the Dragon?

Streets Of Avalon, 2x Group 1 winner! Who would’ve thought we’d be reading that today?? Certainly not us. The Shane Nichols trained gelding backed up his win in the Australia Stakes by coming out and winning the C.F Orr stakes! It certainly made his jockey happy, as Zac Spain became a Group 1 winning jockey for the first time in his career and boy did he enjoy it as they crossed the line! However, one of the biggest stories of the day was Sir Dragonet’s first up flop. All through the week connections were saying that if the Caulfield track was a Good 3 come race time the colt would not run. Hindsight is a beautiful thing, but the track was upgraded to a Good 3 prior to the Cf Orr stakes, yet the Cox Plate champ competed in the Group 1 only to be beaten by 10 lengths!! It’s hard to doubt class, but he would want to bounce back pretty quickly at his next start whenever that may be!

More Controversy in a photo at Caulfield

Remember Defibrillate last weekend? We all thought there was a narrow margin to the Patrick Payne galloper in the final race on the Caulfield card last week, only for it to be declared a dead heat with Hang Man. Well, when General Beau and Anamoe hit the line it felt like a case of Deja Vu. It’s almost identical to the photo we saw last week, yet the judge could split this one? No doubt General Beau is the winner on this occasion, but surely connections of Defibrillate are feeling a bit more shitty today!

Sunday’s Racing Tips – February 7, 2021

Punt Drunk’s Best Bet Of The Day

We are willing to forgive Mystic Journey’s first up mishap when rolled as a $1.10 favourite in the Ladbrokes Stakes. She is one classy mare who continues to amaze throughout her career and we have no doubt she will bounce back with a victory in the listed Thomas Lyons Stakes on Sunday. Her second up form is thoroughly impressive with three wins and a second placed finish from five second up runs and is three wins from four starts on rain affected going. From barrier one she should just take a sit off the leaders heel and at the top of the straight look for ‘Betty’ to power to the line and be too good for this small field.
