Punt Drunk: Revolving door of ins and outs for Golden Slipper

Punt Drunk Daily – March 16, 2021

Good morning, punters, and welcome to another daily edition of #PuntDrunk!

It was a strange old day yesterday with only one horse racing meeting to punt on following the abandonment of Nowra thanks to a heap of rain. We bounce back today with three meetings to sink our teeth into, but it could have been four if it wasn’t for Gatton copping a huge downpour.

Ah well, you get what you get and you do not get upset. Time to crack on.

Fabergino dominates Rosehill trial

Having previously been under the care of Tiarnna Robertson, Fabergino has changed stables to the Chris Waller enterprise following her win in the Listed Bob Hoysted at Flemington on February 27. The Maschino mare is well known for her strong form on the Flemington straight, but it was encouraging to see how she handled a Heavy 8 track at Rosehill on Monday morning. While Fabergino has been nominated for The Galaxy this Saturday afternoon, it remains to be seen if connections actually accept for the race. Despite it only being a trial win yesterday, who doubts her chances in The Galaxy?

More Golden Slipper drama

Sword Of State for Jamie Richards and Robodira for John O’Shea have both been pulled out of contention for the Golden Slipper on Saturday afternoon, while connections of Artorius and Rocket Tiger have paid the $150,000 late entry fee for the $3.5 million race. Then we move over to the Godolphin stable, who apparently had a major meeting on Monday morning to discuss which of their three horses will accept for the Slipper. They have settled on Anamoe and Ingratiating, with the former having already received ballot exemption on the back of a win in the Todman Stakes. With Arcaded not going to the Slipper, it would surely have pissed off connections of the horses that finished behind the filly in the Magic Night Stakes.

Punt Drunk’s best bet of the day

Van Giz will be looking to bring up her second victory at start 11. Having run in the minor money on six other occasions with four runner-up performances, the four-year-old mare out of Written Tycoon is always there or thereabouts. The Jason Collett and Bjorn Baker combination strike at a tick under 20%, while Van Giz is yet to miss the places on rain-affected ground, so we expect her to get the job done in the fourth at Hawkesbury.

Hawkesbury – Race 4 – Class 1 Handicap (1000m)#2 Van Giz (3) $2.30 with Sportsbet
