Punt Drunk: How to Fox your way into an All Star Mile

Fantastic Mr Fox

Punt Drunk Daily – 02/3/21

The Tuesday blues may be here, but #PuntDrunk will help you get through what is easily the worst day of the week.

Since we last spoke, news has emerged of a superstar on the comeback trail and the field for the All Star Mile has been finalised.

All that and plenty of tips to get you through this Tuesday afternoon on the punt.

All Star Mile field set with Lunar Fox wildcard

Let’s be honest: we just wanted to relive the pain Lunar Fox gave us when taking out the Australian Guineas. On the back of that win on Saturday, the higher-ups involved in the All Star Mile have handed the Paul Pruesker-trained gelding a wildcard into the richest mile race on turf. Shout The Bar, Mugatoo and Streets Of Avalon have also received wildcard entries into the Moonee Valley feature. The final spot was sewn up by Star Of The Seas, who won the golden ticket into the race through the Blamey Stakes at Flemington on Saturday. Along with the wildcards, the ambassadors for the race have also been announced. A select group of 15 people who voted for one of the runners will now be cheering home their horse, and the winning ambassador will receive a cool $250k, if you don’t mind!

Watch out, Sydney – Rothfire is back

We all know the immense talent Rothfire has, so it was sad to see him break down in the Group 1 Golden Rose during the spring. However, the comeback is well on track, and the Rob Heathcote team have got plenty already lined up for next spring. Having returned to Heathcote’s stables at Eagle Farm this week, Rothfire will be given time to get himself right before targeting The Shorts first up in September. Having been well supported in all-in markets for The Everest prior to his injury, there is no doubt connections will fancy climbing that mountain this year. He’s a favourite of ours and we can not wait to see him back out on the track in a few months’ time.

Tuesday’s Racing Tips – March 2, 2021

Punt Drunk’s best bet of the day

After an all-the-way victory on debut on November 3, Kris Lees quickly put Rustic Colt away with a view to bigger plans in the autumn. He comes to this first-up attempt on the back of two trials where he was not asked to do much, and with a similar run to his debut effort he will prove far too quick for this field.
