Punt Drunk: Can the Wiz go back-to-back in All Star Mile?

Punt Drunk Daily – 11/3/21

Welcome back to #PuntDrunk for your daily fix of the latest racing news with a bit of tongue in cheek. With 48 hours until the All Star Mile and Coolmore Classic race days, keep your eyes peeled for betting tips and racing previews coming out of HorseBetting in the next couple of days. In the meantime, let’s see what’s doing the rounds today.

A Legacy fit for a King… sort of

It turns out King’s Legacy, the two-time Group 1 winner from the Peter & Paul Snowden yard, ran his final race when finishing fifth in the Randwick Guineas. Now the colt has been sent to go and find his true value in the breeding barn. Despite not winning in close to 12 months, the price King’s Legacy fetches will be based on his success as a two-year-old. Given he took out the ATC Sires Produce and Champagne Stakes this time last year, his progeny will cost a fair chunk of change over the next few years. However, another couple of money bags would have been added if he could have taken out a couple more races as a three-year-old. For many years we have seen big price tags in an auction ring for sires who have only had success as a two-year-old, and perhaps King’s Legacy is the next one to add to that list.

Godolphin stocks boosted ahead of Golden Slipper

Sure, the All Star Mile and the Coolmore Classic are great races to look forward to this weekend, but the marquee Golden Slipper next week has us already salivating. James Cummings has loaded his shots ahead of Saturday week’s race with Rachel King and Damien Oliver both locked in to take the rides on either Anamoe or Ingratiating. It will make for an interesting decision for Godolphin as Oliver has tasted success on board both of their Slipper fancies, whereas King rode Anamoe to victory in the Todman Stakes last weekend. Either way, the Blue Army have got themselves a couple of fantastic jockeys in their corner. It is hard to believe, however, that Oliver has won the Slipper only once – in 2007 on Forensics – throughout his glittering career.

Can the Wizard go back-to-back?

This time last year William Pike was gearing up for a ride on Regal Power in the All Star Mile, where the pair ultimately went on to claim victory. Fast forward 12 months and he has the ride on Arcadia Queen, who is the favourite for this year’s edition. Pikey has hooped plenty of gun runners for owner Bob Peters and has said that Arcadia Queen is the best he has ridden for the legendary owner. That is some claim by the top jockey from across the Nullarbor. You would think only a win in the $5 million race on Saturday would do for the connections – and boy, she does look hard to beat!

Punt Drunk’s best bet of the day

Coin-flip odds for a horse who has only just missed in both of his two career starts? Yes please. Allmamoney looks well placed to break her duck at start three in what looks to be a thin maiden early in the Bunbury card. Stepping up to the 1400m looks perfect, and there are only one or two other runners in the field that have any hope of beating her.
