Punt Drunk: Can The Candy Man Can In The Golden Mile?

Punt Drunk Daily – 27/3/21

This has a little bit of deja vu about it doesnt it? A Saturday morning full of hope that we can get underway hassle free with Golden Slipper race day. We have five Group 1 races at Rosehill to build up to throughout the day including the $3.5 million Golden Slipper, which is a race we have received at least nine different tips for this weekend. With a bit of luck the team here at Horsebetting can tip you into a stack of winners throughout the afternoon and we can have a big day for Golden Slipper Day take two.

A Ranvet with a touch of drama

Addeybb needed to be raring to go first up if the gelding was to beat the likes of Verry Elleegant, Sir Dragonet and Colette on Saturday afternoon in the Ranvet Stakes. Well in a surprise to many they William Haggas-trained Addeybb was reported to be ⅕ lame in the near fore leg which put his place in the 2021 Ranvet Stakes in jeopardy. It is similar circumstances that saw Arcadia Queen scratched from the All Star Mile just a fortnight ago. Addeybb is the current $2.20 favourite for the Ranvet Stakes with online bookmakers, a half point ahead of Verry Elleegant at $2.70. The race comes up early on the card in Race 4, but boy is it going to be one of the best races around the country that we see today.

The Candy Man Can?

He is the cult hero of Queensland, but can The Candy Man for trainer Barry Baldwin head to Bendigo this afternoon and take out the Golden Mile? The grey is well in the market, installed as a $10 chance in the Listed event. The Candy Man has had plenty of trips to Sydney for not much return after being simply outclassed, so how will he go against a few of handy Victorian gallopers? He loves rain affected going, and what is it about a grey in the wet? Bloody hell it is almost like the stars are aligning for The Candy Man at Bendigo!

Punt Drunk’s Best Bet Of The Day

How bloody good was this guy’s debut? He absolutely smacked his rivals at Sandown in an all the way victory and showed plenty of potential class. He was eyeballed by a rival at the 200m mark but under hands and heels kicked clear and put a significant gap on his rivals to suggest there is no ceiling for this John Sadler-trained colt. Look for him to lead the field up and go all the way in a genuine canter.
