Protest provides the nail in the coffin for Cliodhna punters

PUNTERS hate losing their money via protest and that’s exactly what happened at Sunshine Coast on Sunday.

The well-supported each way hope Cliodhna finished second in the ABA Partners C1 Plate and it carried plenty of money with Jeff Lloyd in the saddle, but the protest was lodged and punters waiting nervously for the result.

Given that there were only seven runners in the field, only two placings paid out and it was bad news for punters of the Sona Bloodstock runner. Cliodhna was relegated back to third behind race winner Send Us a Sign and Some Collect.

Neds bonus bet deal

We know that misfortune can happen quite commonly in the horse racing game, but it’s as if the winner of the following race was aware of the script.

The aptly-named Protest scored a 1.75-length win in the Apex Building Maiden Plate and we can only hope the punters that lost their money via protest in the previous race were able to see the irony with the bet.

Horse protest

After all, Send Us a Sign was a good enough clue as to what might happen next!

The win of Protest wasn’t much consolation for punters that did their dough on Cliodhna. Punters get their money back if the horse had won the race, but lost on protest, but unfortunately that bookmaker rule doesn’t apply to the placegetters.

Unfortunately for Jeff Lloyd followers the day didn’t get any better following the protest.

Lloyd finished fourth on Little Miss Monaco, third on Savannah Rose, fifth on Calke Abbey and fourth on Stonecast to round off the disappointing day.
