PROMPT Response will head towards the Group 1 Tattersalls Tiara (1400m) on June 24 after scoring an impressive victory in the Group 2 Dane Ripper (1350m) Stakes at Doomben on Saturday.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Prompt Response settled mid-field and one off the fence under the guidance of Tommy Berry who got the filly to switch off with cover.

Around the home turn Berry found clear room and asked the three-year-old to lift, with the daughter of Beneteau and Prompt responded, slipping into top gear and racing past stablemate My True Love to score by just under half a length.

Bonny O’Reilly had no luck in running but put in another gutsy effort to run third.

It was a deserved win for Prompt Response which had finished runner up at three of her four starts this prep, all of which have been at group 3 level.

The most recent of those runs was a narrow second in the Group 3 Dark Jewel (1400m) at Scone on May 13, with Waterhouse and Bott deciding to give her a short let-up following that run with the Tatts Tiara in mind.

Bott was full of praise for Prompt Response following the run, her fourth career win at start 15.

“She has been knocking on the door so it was great to see her rewarded for her consistency,” Bott said.

“We made the decision a couple of weeks back just to give her a little freshen up after Scone so that we could go into it with these two runs and just with some fresh legs and to have enough left in the tank to go towards the Tatts Tiara.

“The Tatts Tiara has always been the grand final for her…she’s got plenty to offer and I think she’ll be right in it.”

Berry was also pleased with the performance – stating the bonny bay settled a lot better on Saturday.

“She was a lot more relaxed today – she was a bit close the other day and went a bit keen so she was weaker at finish,” he said.

“Gai is a master at getting these horses ready for Winter Carnivals – they are a great team to ride for.”

Bott was also happy with the efforts of second place getter My True Love on Saturday, explaining that a similar path might be on the cards.

“She gave a very bold sight in front. It was a very big step up in class for her but she is a filly really on the improve and she might be in with a chance in that race as well.”
