Pillar Of Creation scores back-to-back victories at Doomben
TRAINER Tony Sears’ daughter Maddison has been given most of the credit for rejuvenated galloper Pillar Of Creation’s win at Doomben.
Pillar Of Creation has been with Sears for more than a year and had not won in 13 Queensland starts before winning at Doomben two weeks ago.
Starting at $3.80, Pillar Of Creation made it two wins in a row when he beat Kraftwerk ($2.60) by short neck in the Hotel LA Handicap on Saturday.
Sears said he had tried a few different things with Pillar Of Creation this campaign, including getting his daughter Maddison to put the gelding over some jumps.
“Maddison is a show jumper and they both seem to enjoy the different regime. She already has her eye on him as a show horse when he finishes racing,” he said.
Sears said Pillar Of Creation would now have a short break before being aimed at the Listed Weetwood Handicap (1200m) at Toowoomba on April 16.
“He was very unlucky in a lot of his races before finally winning one. Pillar Of Creation should have won the Weetwood last year and this year it might be our turn,” Sears said.
“I have been trying to win a Weetwood for long enough and I will keep trying until I do.”
He also hopes to have I Am Boss ($6.50), which won the OJ Kitchens and Joinery Handicap (1050m), in the Weetwood.
“I Am Boss is one of the most consistent horses I have trained and he should have won a few more races,” Sears said.
Gold Coast galloper Big Tree, who has attracted an offer from Hong Kong, is likely to stay in Queensland after running his fifth consecutive second in the McGahan Electric Handicap.
Big Tree ($8) came from the outside barrier and carried 59kg to go down by three quarters of a length to Sydney visitor Secret Trail ($2.35).
“How can you sell him? I will accept for the Arrowfield Stakes in Sydney next month and take it from there,” said trainer and senior owner Peter Balzen.
